All these years and I've never put up any of my work...so I've decided to buy myself a nice big canvas print :)

I can't take as many shots now due to being more busy at work and instead of loosing my mojo, I've come to the conclusion I have lots of nice images that I just forget about so instead I'm going to print my artwork :)

Now I feel silly I've never made myself a print to enjoy my work!

It is something I keep meaning to do also. I have done some large prints, just of the girls, but I'm useless for getting frames to actually hang them. Painted the house recently so we have some bare walls that need filling. I might get a canvas done up of one of my recent shots from NY.

I did start a response earlier Phil, but it was a little negative, so I didn't post :D

Good for you and I hope they turn out as well as you expect. I had a bunch of my photos printed a while back, just through the Asda introductory offer which probably partly explains how disappointed I was with them :gag:

Apart from them being cropped in the lab (enlarging them is standard practice I later learned) and losing some detail (which I expected to some extent), I was mostly dismayed at how unspectacular they looked (totally my doing, as I shot them)

Good luck

I keep meaning to get more printed, maybe not uber large but a few bigger ones. I never get round to it, but I think its nice to hold the images and view a final product instead of the intermediary existence on the computer

Actually I just had some prints done the other day, possibly the first time ever :$

It has inspired me to print some more :D

Which lab will you use Phil and why not try one of the newer mediums like acrylic?

I think most of us here, if honest, have few if any prints of our own work and I often wonder why. Maybe we are too self critical?

Let us know which image you decide on please.

Andy

I realised this Andy, I have been thinking for a while now "should I just sell all my gear - I can't be bothered anymore. I don't get out much and might as well just have a compact" ...then I bash myself over the head!!!

Now I've come to the conclusion to enjoy my work more, which makes sense since I do actually like my photos.

I seem to take shots, spend ages processing them, post them online and then that's it...Then I get into the mode of thinking "what's the point!?".

Seems silly indeed.

Anyhow - I looked on photobox and for the size I wanted, there was no way I was paying for it...so I checked out ebay and found this and this is the image I think I'll get mounted;

I hope it comes out ok :)

Let's see how mine comes out...I'm printing A1 size from a 10mp image taken from a compact!! :cuckoo:

Didn't fancy my chances on an A1 frame LOL

Lol it was intended to spark up conversation from like minded people.

Gosh, has friendliness of the forum sliding somewhat in recent months or what??

Maybe I'll get more communication asking about which camera to buy next....

Ah well.

I don't know what you mean? I thought its was great that you are getting prints done. Nothing unfriendly or negative at all, it's great.

Printing your own work should be a priority but very few of us do. Really happy for you and bet you enjoy it :)

I used BPD Photech for a special print if my child. Had it printed up 15x10 in a black and white mettalic print, got a custom mount and a simple white frame from the range. Whole lot cost me £20 but everyone that comes round our house comments on it.

I really must print more too :)

Stunning image that you've chosen to print, perhaps more of us should even if its just standard size prints to start with just so we can see what we have achieved and are capable of, might inspire us again:)

Let us know how it turns out

My house is full of peregrines watching my every move, the odd hawk and owl as well. Even an osprey watching me as it brings a full trout back to the nest. That barn owl must be fed up of watching me taking a dump as well................
:)

I read threads on here about losing ones "mojo",I look at those prints and think "I can get better ones"...........Fill your boots pal, why the F not.

My prints make me smile, I make my own frames and ,you know summat, that is all part of this photography thing that I enjoy.

After having my printer sat round gathering dust for a while I've started printing some of my stuff - have also got the bits for framing photos myself too.

Something kinda nice about having a pic on the wall that I've done every step myself from pressing the button, processing, printing, framing and finally putting the nail in the wall!!

It's also good when I'm out with the camera to be thinking about how something might look hung in my lounge as opposed to it just being an image for it's own sake.

All good!!

I have quite a few of my photo's up on the wall I've recently had this put onto a nice 30x20 canvas and just today ordered a 20x15 print of it for my sister from loxley

Seems a shame not to have prints on display :D

Dunno why Matt, they are crap......................;)

Something else that I have noticed about doing prints, when I resize some stuff for the web or look on a screen ( not a cheapo one), they look a bit crappy really.

But, when you get big prints done from quality labs, they really come to life.

What can I say I can smear my own crap on the wall but not suffer the smell :D

This is really true, I only use suppliers that really have a top reputation for quality :D

Beautiful image Phil, well worth getting that on the wall and enjoying it.
As for flogging your gear, can I suggest that you stand in front of a mirror and giving yourself a damn good *******ing?!

Andy

I'm not much of a landscape fancier myself and so I haven't got anything similar to get a canvas of. I do have my set of my fingerprints, blown up with a 100 L macro on my wall and theres another 7 large pictures up on the wall of various animals, lions, tigers, wolves and the like so there's not much room left in the room for any more. I've got a 15" digital photo frame for displaying my shots though and I keep changing them so I don't get bored with them.

I like the idea of a digital photo frame!!

Yeah, me too. a 15" sounds great! they used to be mad expensive, and very fiddly to work, I'm sure they're much better quality nowadays? Must have a scope about online.

I've had some of mine printed and framed for a few months now....just haven't got round to putting them on the walls yet!

Even before putting them up I've thought 'I can do better'

I have a few of my images on my walls now.

Got a big 60x40" Acrylic box frame, a 36x24" Alumini print and a 30x20" Acrylic Edge print. Going to order a few large frames next month too!

Although mine is used to help me sell, it is nice to sit and look at them some times! :)

Where do you find offers best quality for your money with regard to Aluminium prints?

I didn't use money as an issue with mine tbh I just wanted the best.

I saw DSCL aluminium prints and thought they lacked the quality.

So I went with Loxely and it looks superb!! The difference is night and day IMO.

I asked because I looked up a few recently, one I saw advertised in one of the usual magazines [can't rem the name of site off top of my head, will try dig it out] - they were a lot more expensive than another site I looked up from there per size. Just wondered did the quality reflect the price well? I will have a look into Loxely.

Mine cost me just over £200 I think.

They're not cheap but they look awesome on the wall. Everyone comments on it.

The finish is of a high standard and you get what you pay for IMO. :)

I'm pleased to read that Rob, having just put my first order in with Loxley, I have to say if there print's are half as good as there customer services I'm going to be a happy bunny :D

I had a customer order a framed product which I ordered from Loxley and 3x 30x20" prints which I added onto my order I put in with DSCL.

After I looked at the large format prints from DSCL next to the framed print from Loxely I was embarrassed at the quality, so they went in the bin and re-ordered from Loxely. A £50 mistake I wont be making again!

I think you will be happy with whatever you've ordered Matt!

signing up to Loxely now, see what they have on offer ;)

I'm waiting to the new year as they offered 40% off samples this year apart from the months of November and December. So hoping they do something similar again next year. :)

Still 20% off a sample product though!

Just to update the thread: My canvas came today. Very big and very good quality print! The work is exactly as I've seen from other printers and simply amazed at 2 things;

1) What I got for just £25!!!
2) That my 9.5mp image taken on a tiny sensor blew up to a quality A1 size print. EVen happier with my LX7 now :)

I can recommend http://www.pix2canvas.co.uk/ for anyone interested. 3x cheaper than Jessops - really happy with it.

^^This.

Really when you see some of the el cheapo Asda/Tesco/et al canvases that some people have on their walls and are really happy with I realise that I am far to critical. I don't even put my stuff online because I don't believe in it. I have a couple of friends on facebook that put loads of pictures up and get lots of comments along the lines of "oh your pictures are so great/you should sell them/you could take photos for a living" and I look at them and think that they are not really *that* special. Whose problem is it? Mine! I need to love my pictures for what they are and not what I hope they could or should be.

I have lost my mojo so many times I don't count now. My gear stays in the cupboard and I'd never sell it because I know that I love taking pictures and there will always be time when I will miss it and need it again.

I do print out my favourites and pop them in albums though. Nothing quite like flicking through an album with friends who love your pictures because of what they represent and remind them of :)

My office (Top legal 500 company) has 2 of my prints up as massive canvas in 2 of the meeting rooms lol

Personally, I only have printed and framed one. I would print more but they are costly and I have no place to display them.

Left pic. (Right pic is a Lara Jade original)
