Decided on 600D or 650D; what standard lens to complement 50mm and 55-250mm?

Hi all,
Apologies for a relative newbie question. As per the thread title, what are people's recommendations? I own a 50mm f/1.8 and 55-250mm f/4-5.6 already from my previous set up, and i'm looking for a decent walkabout lens. Ive been looking at:
- Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ISII, which would also be the cheapest option;
- Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4, which has the obvious added appeal of a bit of extra reach;
-Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8;

I would go for the Tamron 17-50 2.8. From my experience it was the sharpest in that price/range.
 
I like the 15-85. Not got one but tried one and it is a lovely lens. Obviously a bit more though!

Another vote for the efs 15-85 good focal range and excellent IQ
a must have lens for canon crop users as is the is 17-55 f2.8
you could always buy a used one
 
I started out with the 18-55 then upgraded to the tamron. The tamron is much better its more flexible in low light, the F2.8 allows my 650d to focus much faster than the 18-55 and IMO the image quality is a bit better.

Thanks for your input; i think it is between this Tamron and the Sigma, just drawn to the latter because of that extra bit of range...
 
I upgraded from the 18 - 55 to the Sigma 17-70. It's a noticable improvement in resolution at the edges of the image, 17 mm is noticably wider than 18mm, the extra range at the other end is very useful and the wider apature is always handy. Defianately a good buy for me. Never tried the tameron, so can't comment on that.
 
From the reviews I've seen the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 is a standout lens amongst the 3 you've listed and would be a very useful addition. As regards the question of 600D or 650D I would advise you to go with the 650D if possible. The ISO performance alone is worth it but you also get faster fps, all cross point AF and a Digic 5 processor. Add that to probably the best set of video features on a dslr which makes it a great camera for the money. I got one for the wife when they were first released and she absolutely loves it.

Thank you for your input. I went for the 650D in the end and it is worlds apart from the 1000D it replaced. Still undecided on the walkabout lens though!
