Decent mouse for Macbook editing

My mighty mouse is definitely on its way out and I need to get a replacement. It seems to be less responsive and the ball is failing to track again.

At work and at home I have some cheap Microsoft Optical wheel mice that I really like, but really want something bluetooth enabled for simplicity and I'd rather not use up what few USB ports I have.

I'd rather something simple ish, I can't be doing with mice with 100s of buttons. That said the new Apple touch mouse looks nice if a little pricey.

Any suggestions for something I can use for a spot of photo shop and have some hope of some accuracy!
 
Microsoft's models are the most comfortable to use by a long way, and I've tried a lot of different brands. I use this old one that seems out of production (I think I paid £20-ish on eBay). this looks like the replacement one, with a similar size & shape.
 
I've used the Magic Mouse with a laptop and a desktop Mac, for Photoshop use. Works fine with no problems. Only drawback is the price, but if you have a glass track pad Mac then you'll find it easy to use. Also the ability to move around a zoomed image by just moving your finger over the mouse does make life easy.
 
Yeah I like the scroll ball on the mighty mouse (when it works). Might have to pop into an apple shop for a play with the magic mouse to see if it's worth the money if I will have to spend that much anyway on non Apple stuff.
 
have a wander into pc world and have a play around with a few to gauge shapes in your hand etc.

you cant go far wrong with a logitech in my experience. my latest mouse was i think 20 quid.. laser tracking, wireless, scroll wheel and upteen buttons.
 
Some of the new Logitech's come with very small USB receivers nowadays too, so you don't have a big dongle sticking out the side of your laptop.

Performance Mouse MX is the boyo. :D
 
+1 for the Apple Magic mouse :thumbs:
Only had mine a couple of days but it's excellent. Plus, theres no scroll wheel or ball to get gummed up and stop working.
 
Although I love my Mac I always use a Microsoft optical mouse.
I had a Mighty mouse which I couldn't get used to.

If you want a cordless mouse then I would recommend getting a bluetooth model, otherwise you might end up with a nasty looking receiver sticking out of your Mac.

I'd recommend Logitech wireless over bluetooth in my opinion.

-1 for the Magic Mouse here though. Very difficult to operate if you've been swimming and got dry hands, because it's impossible to grip it. Apple may be good at some things, but Mice, they are not.

The new Trackpad is cool, and I now use that for everything apart from photo editing. I use the MX for that.

i always use gaming mice, they tend to have decent sensors with variable dpi that work on pretty much any surface, well designed unless you're a lefty, variable weights and plenty of buttons for macros

overclockers.co.uk normally have some in and probably ebuyer etc but google should help if not as it's been a fair few years since i've bought a new mouse :)
 
I used a Mighty Mouse for a couple of years and really liked it, especially the 360 degree scrolling, but the scroll ball eventually stopped working (and an attempt to crack open the mouse to fix it was unsuccessful!)

I used a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook 5000 mouse for a while, which was OK, but I now use a Magic Mouse and it is excellent. Some may find it a bit flat, but I got used to it quickly and I love the momentum scrolling. Plus, downloading MagicPrefs allows much more customisability.

I have looked at the mice with mini receivers but with only 2 USB ports I'd rather not permanently remove on from use. All it takes it for me to be running a time machine backup over USB and have a camera/reader in the other and I am full. Really needs to be Bluetooth.

You mention that you want it for editing, if that's all you need it for then personally I'd ditch the idea of getting a mouse and buy a tablet.
 
I do use it for other stuff but I want to use it with photoshop/gimp etc and so need to cope with this. I have found my Mighty mouse to be a bit clumsy of late, though that might just mean it needs new batteries (the ball is definitely dead though).

I might consider a tablet at some point but right now I just need a mouse that works and is reasonably accurate.
 
if you want a mouse, get the magic mouse, its the best.

As pointed out by previous posters a tablet would be useful.

The wacom Bamboo pen, is around the same price as the magic mouse, and I would highly recommend it. Though i Use mouse/keyboard/tablet for editing. it is difficult without one of them.
 
Have to say I use the new Magic Mouse it does eat batteries a little but is great to use
