Decent book for Elements 9 ?

As far as I am concerned, I would recommend the book. I have used versions of this Scott Kelby book for Elements 6 and 8.

Have you priced up the book from amazon's US operation? Even adding on the cost of International postage (which still deliver usually within 2 weeks even with cheapest postage option) Amazon US can save you decent money, especially on US sourced books! This is an option I have tried many times without any problems.

Thanks for the input...

It looks like its the same price on .com and .co.uk :-) nasty exchange rate I guess.....

Mmm, hadn't noticed the recent slide in the Dollar/Sterling exchange rate. To think in 2007 we got just over 2 dollars to the pound and early last year 1.75 dollars to the pound. Glad I'm not going in the near future to the US...

Element 9 the missing manual looks reasonable, don't know how the price compares though.

Im reading Elements 8 version and would recommend it definitely. Version 9 in your case obviously.

Thanks folks...

Amazon has the cheapest price, Tesco, Whsmith, etc.. are all significantly more.....

ordered

I don't know if it was the Christmas backlog or what but a book I ordered on the 2nd didn't come till yesterday the 11th, several days after the claimed deliver date.

I had some issues with deliveries as well around then....

I ordered elements Friday was delivered Monday (@work so may have arrived Sat)

Fingers crossed for a reasonable delivery :-)

Which book did you order? My reply looked like I was saying I had the elements 9 version of Waynes book whereas I meant the Scott Kelby book you initially mentioned.

Cheers

Is the Scott Kelby book suitable for a beginner?

Yes.

The book goes through each technique click by click with access to the actual photographs used in the book to practise on via a website linked to the book. It is very clear and concise and very humorous to boot!

Thanks Gary!
Have just ordered the Scott Kelby book.

Are these books better than the on-line videos, I have watched a few and then had a practise after each one, just wondering wether to splash the cash on the books or stick with the videos?

Sorry Gareth, I've only ever used the Scott Kelby books so cannot comment on which is best.

Do you find the book useful, does it prompt you to try different things, its just at the moment feel like I've barely sratched the surface, and think that maybe have a book to fall back on may introduce some different ideas/ways of processing.

Yes I did / do. I know there are a lot on on-line / Youtube videos, but I preferred to have a book I could refer to as I tried new things. Plus, it's always there to refer to when I need it...

Having a flick through shows what is possible... it has a lot of the common techniques to start you off, then you can compare to the vids..

Mixing both is probably a good idea :-)
