Deceased Macbook....Solutions?

My vintage MacBook of circa 2007/08 has finally died or so it appears.

No battery charging, no power start up with battery in or out, and seemingly no power getting to it.

I've tried the SMC(?) reset but to no avail. I'm wondering if any of the good and washed here know what the problem could be.

Being a sentimental old soul I'm not inclined to spares/repair it if I can possibly help not to.

Wonder if it has an internal battery that has gone flat and that's why it won't start up?

I'd also check the power brick carefully. It can come adrift so it runs really hot. Need to make sure it is plugged together securely.
 
Charger power I'm assuming is OK, although when I plug into the Macbook is goes from green to red with battery in situ, stays green without battery.

It charges my MB Air without any problems.

So is it the correct charger for the macbook? I thought the MB air ones were different spec and if you swapped them over you caused problems?!

Red means battery is dead as a dodo. It should go to orange.

If you have been using an incorrect charger it might just be an internal fuse that has blown. I'd contact a mac repair place and see what they suggest.

They do. That's how I use mine as the battery warped into a weird shape.
 
Well a confession. I've used a mixture of chargers dependent on where I've been at the time.... loft office or downstairs. I was under the impression it didn't make any difference.

I've bought a replacement battery which is showing charge (little lights on the battery), but when the charger is plugged in the charger light goes red. If I remove the battery completely it goes green but no power to the MB.

I've tried switching on and holding the arrow key for it to illuminate but no luck :(

I guess a quick call to Apple maybe in order.
 
I had issues a few years ago with MBP from 2007. Long story short it was motherboard fault and I had new one paid for (£800-ish) by applecare. I was told replacement was improved / fixed version. I still have it.
Considering the age it is most certainly not even worth the trip to apple store, other than to pick up a new one. They may not even have the parts any more. It is easier to sell on ebay for spares and pick up a new one.

I hope this is not the same issue, but it sounds very familiar.
 
If all else fails (and I do hope you can find a way of resurrecting cheaply), you can always use it for this:

Yep, it's all pointing to the logic board, which if it is it's beyond help :( Someone the Wife knows is going to give it a look over tomorrow and see if it can be resuscitated..

:lol: Thanks for the suggestion... it has done me proud, little basic Macbook. Looks like it may come in handy for straightening that wonky desk I have now :D
