DeBrito's PHOTO 52 2011

Hi Paul, some good images & a great effort to catch up in such a short space of time.

Love the knowledge shot, got a real feel of an expert at work.

The re-shoot of trio looks much more interesting & the edit of finish really works (think the comment of a re-shoot with a shell is a great idea)

HI Paul , apologies for missing a few of your weeks !

Love your selective coloring for Trio , purple is just great on crocus  Also really like the 1st reshoot image for trio , lovely blue sky , very abstract image but I appeals to me

Knowledge is a fab idea  Agree with earlier comments about the hand

Your reworked finish shot is brilliant , really does look like a beach  Great imagination for that shot mister

Moderation.. prefer your 1st shot with the cork on it's side (& the twisted to the right so the word MOET is level ! sorry OCD again)

Looking forward to your Empty capture :)

Im really happy with this one its my 1st real go at hdr
this was a disused mill and i managed to get on every floor some fantastic stuff in there i got this on floor 3 i think (lol)

empty big time
empty.jpg

i hope the image is not too light as i like the idea of the light streaming in through the windows only i have a new monitor so need calibrating me thinks ???

Hiya Paul,

Week 12: Love the bar, is that what you were building in your Knowledge week? I like both shots, but #1 is my preferred choice for the DOF.

Week 13: Wow that is fantastic. I like how the chair is positioned to cast almost a ghost-like shadow and the composition and balance of left and right walls is great really draws one into the image.

Also like the way you have edited the Finish shot

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hiya Paul, I really like your photo for the empty theme, perhaps it is a little light, but it doesnt detract from the image. I was wondering how this would look if you altered the contrast and brought the shadows of the windows out more, a moody b+w conversion?

Well it is a lot darker on my pc that's the way i like it too, but it seems photo bucket lighten some images and its hard to control it
im still trying to get the balance right, i tend to like me images darker reather the light i don't know why ???
had a quick go in photbucket

Hi Paul, I like your empty photo very much. I like the broken chair a lot, adds to the run down theme. I think the original is better the b&w edit is too dark imo. I don't think the 1st one is too light. People with different PC monitors will perceive the brightness differently. On my Dell U2209WA it looks just fine :)

Brilliant picture Paul. Much prefer the original to the B&W. Just wish I could find somewhere to do some similar exploring.

Hi Paul,

Not dropped in on yours since your first car image.
The shots are really coming on with some great takes on the theme.

I like you first peg shot. The line and three pegs against the sky is simple, but it really works.

The winner is the empty shot, the chair really finishes the shot well.
It looks a great place for some portrait shoots too.

Hiya Paul,

Here again .... to comment on the b&w of the Empty shot. Personally I think it is a bit too dark (and I realise you said you prefer a darker photo), but I feel that some of the fantastic detail is lost with the b&w conversion.

So my  still for #1 which is an ace photo.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Paul

really like your take on Empty & the processing works just great (though I still don't understand HDR!)
The chair adds to the feeling of empty & love the graffiti on the wall as it makes me thinkg the room has been empty for a long long time :)

I relate to your original empty shot, the coloured graffiti seems to emphasise the emptiness as does the broken chair

Thanks you for all your comments, i am really enjoying this exercise im so glad i started!!!

hi i have had no idea what to do for either of themes
so i might of just come up with a very tame plan b/w with a bit of hdr

I recently went for a walk with my wife to fountains abbey my main plan was to come up with some thing for last weeks theme object and boy did i stuggle untill i came up with this the object being the cross

DSC01009_7_8_tonemappedcopy-1.jpg

and to top it all off whilst i was there i had read that Henry VIII had ordered that all the wealth be stripped from all the monasteries
across the county and the most wealthiest was fountains abbey and that in my view was

Wrong

Hi Paul

I really like both your shots for Wrong & Object ...the soft focus/blur round the adge of Object works really well & draws the eye to the cross:thumbs:

The Wrong shot , to me is just fabulous , looks almost like a graphite pencil drawing , well impressed  but tell me please....is that tree really bent over like that??

Hiya Paul,

Week 14: I agree with Lynne, I like the slight blurring, although I'm not sure about the rounded edges. Also looks a tad off alignment. But a great photo for object.

Week 15: Indeed it does look like a drawing. I haven't had much experience of HDR, but one thing I am aware of is the slight halo around the tower and trees.

Otherwise both photos fit the themes well.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Yes im still experimenting with the whole hdr think really (and yes the tree is ilke that ) the hrd thing i found if you over do it it tends to look like a drawing im pleased with these shots
im having a nightmare trying to get my head around paradox theme
thanks for comments

oh been so busy doing nothing haven't been out shooting for what seems a life time, i really struggled with this but here goes
This is my boy and as you can see on his top it says "who's bad " oh how i struggled with the meaning not the shot

Hiya Paul,

Well done on your Paradox ... don't worry you are not alone with the difficulty of this one .... I think many found it quite a challenge.

I think you have done well .... although I can't imagine your son is 'bad' .... he looks so sweet and innocent :)

I like the photo and the background is fantastic. Perhaps a slight sharpen would bring out a bit more of the brickwork as the image looks a tad soft.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Edit

Hiya again,

Paul I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't resist doing an edit to satisfy my own curiosity ....and then also had an idea that this could also look good in mono:

Debrito edit of Paradox colour:

Thought it better to show what I had pictured in my mind for these images as they are full of so much character. Just say if you want me to remove them.

Cheers

Hiya Paul,

You are welcome ;)

I often find myself thinking should I edit this, is it too much, etc, etc, that is the beauty about this Photo52 .... all part of the learning and finding out what other peoples opinions are about our photos, techniques, applications etc.

Cheers

Dawn :)

finding it hard now to keep up!! i got another re shoot week 16

still cant get anything tropical and its Friday night !!!!

Hiya Paul,

I really like your latest photo ... the composition works well and the colours are lovely.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Paul, I would advise you not to fret...I too, am behind :S

I like the composition of your reshoot but unlike Dawn find the colours a bit heavy on the blue? Maybe it is my monitor or me  Was out in Wales all night having my retinas burnt by passing rally cars

Well due to the fantastic weather we are getting i was laid in the garden looking up into the sky and not a cloud to be seen!! i then thought why that looks tropical me thinks
tropical.jpg

oh am i pleased about that love the colours

Hiya Paul,

Yep that looks tropical to me too. Love how you have captured the blue sky.

Well done

Cheers

week 18 i think power i wonted to get a thunderstorm in the back ground but it did not happen by time i got in position it had moved on but i got some interst in clouds a least
power.jpg

Hiya Paul,

I love your Power shot great lead in line and the motion blur of the turbines oozes power.

Also like the moody sky, emphasising another element of power.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Well a thunderstorm would certainly have been power, with lightening flashes and all. You have a moody sky that is certainly evidence of a storm, lovely detail. Personally I've never been convinced of wind turbines creating/accessing power more than is required to creat, install and maintain them.

That is a very threatening sky

I agree about the wind turbines i don't believe they produce much either

thanks for comment's

Hi, Paul, yip, that's a great sky.

I'd like to see a bit for foreground detail as it's a tad too dark. Nice and atmospheric though.

And motion blur.

Minor point but I'd feel I'd like to see it a bit closer to the turbines.

Cheers.
