Dear Santa....

Well now.

Anybody want to tell me the differences for the extra £500? (I reckon HMRC + DHL will want a couple of hundred at import).

Difficult to tell from web images but let's all play guess the difference :)

The one I edited into the second post, minus the import duty as from the UK, seems very close.

I added one of these recently to my lighting kit, the sun at night now.:)

I'm lucky because I don't have to guess at the difference:)

The Ebay one needs a counterbalance and has a much lighter weight stand. And the supporting ribs are different and so produces a less regularly-shaped catchlight.

The best match for the Lencarta is in fact the Bron one at more than twice the price. The main difference is that the Bron one has a handle that helps to assemble it without effort.

Yeah.

Maybe the counterbalance is needed because it is bigger? Anyway, a counterbalance makes perfect sense to me. I would put in on a C stand, if I was ever lucky enough to use one.

Less regularly shaped catch-light? IN what way exactly does a 16 rib Ebay one make a less regularly shaped catch-light than the 16 ribbed Lencarta? I would not be surprised if they came out of the same factory in China.

The Bron, Briese, etc is a best match? Main difference the handle, eh? Right. The Bron etc ones are expensive because they include a perfectly optically placed light source, often up to 4800watt/sec, and often running the length of the rod.

Well, I've been looking around the web and see that there are a few 'varieties' on sale at much lower prices than the Lencarta one. I see that the descriptions are just bad translations of bad descriptions, that the actual reflectors and mechanisms are different, the stands are different etc etc and that they are largely out of stock, but perhaps Lencarta should price match them anyway, even if it means losing money...

Not my decision but the boss will be at my studio later today and I'll see what he says. If the price does go down and if anyone has bought one before then they will be refunded with the difference.
