I'm just walking in Rother Valley country park in Killamarsh, Derbyshire and have come across a beheaded swan which has a tag. I'm not sure if it's by a predator or by a human and wouldn't know how to tell. I've taken photos of the body, the 'wound' and both sides of the tag. What should I do with this information? Police? I have no idea.

Thanks

Managed to get through to Derbyshire police and reported it. They're sending a wildlife officer out so that's all I can do. Thanks for the reply though.

Do you know what sort of swan it is?

There are always lots of resident mutes and no other types I've ever seen there so I'm assuming mute. It had a BTO tag (silver metal tag number: ZZ6811 if that's any use) on right leg and a yellow tag with black numbers 990 on the other leg.

@htid Did you ever hear anything about the incident, Chris?

No I didn't. the police said they may need to call me back to get precise directions but I never heard anything more. I posted the information on the BTO link you gave and provided all my details so I'm not sure if I should expect to hear anything else.

Doesn't sound like you'll hear back, but at least someone's been informed.
I wondered if there was anything in the local news about it, after all not something you'd expect to see is it.

Unfortunately I live in London, I was only up visiting my parents so I don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere. I'll have a quick Google search
