I'm taking it back tomorrow, am I mad? I know there would be a margin of people who would just ignore it but.....

It's a Samsung Galaxy note 3 so for a phone costing £600 I would have thought QC would be more stringent!

Other than that, it's a bloody good phone, upgraded from the original Note that I bought last year!

I had a dead pixie once. I had warned him not to climb on the shelving in the warehouse but he knew better and.... oh, sorry, pixel.

Ahem

Quite right, at least Specsavers won't be getting your money!

1 dead pixel? out of how many? 2 million+ 6 sigma is 3.6 faults per million...

I appreciate it may be annoying but good luck

Good luck, as Samsung seem to think 4 dead pixels are acceptable before it becomes a warranty issue.

Where did you get the phone from?

Mobile Phone & Tablets
The Dead pixel warranty applies when your mobile phone display contains certain dead pixels as per below table within the standard warranty period on your mobile phone display which SAMSUNG will replace/replenish your defective mobile phone display.

Claimable dead pixel policy is as below:
SpecificationClaimable
General LCD1 or over 1
Super-AMOLED3 or over 3
WVGA resolution LCD4 or over 4

Carphone warehouse, i know it's just the one pixel but it's just annoying, I can understand if the phone had some severe usage but not after day one?

Luck of the draw there, you might get someone who doesn't know his behind from his elbow and just swaps it. Worth a try if it really bothers you.

We'll see how it goes, it's covered under their 14 day money back guarantee apparently, as long as it's given back in the same condition ;)

Sod's law and all that.....

Well if you paid £600 for a phone I'd want you to get a perfect example as well, I wouldn't leave the shop without a mint one or money back on that, like you say you have a 14 day money back guarantee

I fully agree with you guys, in that I too would have a full on grump in the shop, and the CEO of carphone whorehouse would be at the receiving end of a humbelter of an email... just saying though, that i think they will try to fob you off with the 6 sigma malarky and as mentioned above "4 dead ones is ok".. i had a well known issue with a s4 (tiny crack top right of screen) as a result of having it in your pocket.. (where else would i keep it, not having a "manbag") O2 and samsung dint want to know.. claimed on home insurance and they replaced and got a successful recovery from Samsung.

Right, the mission is set, will be leaving shortly to see how we get on, I have a good argument - they say the display has x resolution, I will claim that due to this 1 dead pixel that I'm being mis sold a product of which the resolution does not match what's described on the packaging :tumbleweed:

On a serious note, I'll just say that I was mad enough to buy the phone out right and that it should be in full operational condition - if I went into an Apple store, it would get replaced (although Samsung & Apple hate eachother on paper :D )

Where is the dead pixel? If it is slap bang in the middle of the screen then you have a much stronger case for demanding a replacement. None of my apple products have a single wonky pixel. Stick it to Samsung!

it's in the middle slightly to the right hand side, bright red, because the screen is AMOLED it means that it's constantly on while using the phone but ofcourse if you go to an image with a black area it will turn off, not as annoying as an LCD would be but still!

Darn Samsung, the other annoying thing is I had to change my sim to a micro sim, it's been nearly 24 hours since registered and it's still not registered on Vodafone :( I'm looking at a very expensive white brick at the moment!

One of the pains of modern panels unfortunately.

I've been fairly lucky that I've only ever had 2 issues in 8-9years of the technology.

1) sticky pixel on my 8 year old 43"plasma. Not noticeable 99% of the time at normal distance and on some colours
2) stuck pixel noticeable all the time on a Samsung LCD. Got OCUK to rma it successfully.

You may find as someone mentioned above that most manufactures have a minimum level of dead pixels before they'll act. Certainly my pioneer tv manual states that pixels are not covered at all by warranty because its "in the nature of the technology".

So you're at the mercy of the retailer as to whether they'll replace it and take the hit of having a dead handset that the manufacturer won't take back.

Good luck.

Good luck with Vodafone. One of the most incompetent companies I've dealt with recently. We're now a 100% Three household as a result.

Exactly the opposite here, had to be with Three for a number of years with work phones, numerous hardwear, network and billing issues all dealt with via the worst out of UK call centre I've ever spoken to all mean I wouldn't give them my business if they offered it for free. Vodafone on the other hand have been brilliantly efficient and pleasant to deal with for the last 4 years, and I'm about to renew again.

We were mislead, lied to over a period of months and nobody gave a toss. Appalling company.

Three have been an absolute delight in comparison, not that they've given us any reason to need to contact them.

Just got back from the store, instant replacement :)

The manager said that if any handset has such a problem it will be replaced as long as you return it within 28 days of purchase ;)

I guess there is still a percentage of good customer service on the high street, I bet if it was Phones4u they would blame me for causing it!

It's on charge at the mo, will investigate heavily once i've set it up, unfortunately doing it in the store would take a while, the setup menu etc is all in black / dark blue so it won't show a dead pixel until the whites and lighter colours show, it also requires a full setup using wifi instead of 4G so I just literally popped the pristine box in the bag, grabbed a baguette for lunch and drove home - don't attempt any shopping in Winchester - it's manic and full of idiots bashing my pregnant wife around!

Exactly Neil! Can't stand the place, yes there is some character there but it's since changed into a classy s*** hole!

Phone looks fine soo far, still won't register to Vodafone though, that makes it over 24 hours now!
