Yes
Hi All

Just been browsing through my Cyprus holiday pics and spotted an anomaly on every image. There is a small red dot on each of the images at exactly the same point on each image. Could this mean there is a dead pixel on the sensor of my camera...?

I'd say so yes, can you post an example?

Cheers,
James

Have to be more than one to notice I'd have thought. What does it look like when you zoom right in?

I've got a dead pixel on my 20D. Dont notice it unless I'm doing long exposures of a dark dark scene (eg moon shots), even then I have to zoom to nearly 100% to see it.

Ive got 1 on my D40X as well. Doesn't bother me too much now. If it becomes obvious, its a 2 second job to clone it out.

Is it dead or stuck ? If its stuck (on a colour), it might be fixable. I had (yes, had) a dead pixel on my 30D. I noticed it when i got a IR filter (very easy to spot on that when the spot was red). All I did was put on the sensor cleaning cycle with the lens on, and then viola it was gone ! What happens is when you put on the lens cleaning, the camera "reset" the sensor on next power up, and that sometimes would wake up the stuck pixel.

I think "Cyprus" is the key to this one. The red dot that you're seeing is the "sun". You're forgiven for not remembering what it looks like.;)

From past posts on another forum, I believe that a dead pixel would show as black but I suspect that we all have some dead pixels give that there are 5-15 million of them crammed in there. I don't believe that you'd see one dead pixel. A pixel permanently ON may be visible at high resolution when it's in a low contrast area (eg sky).

Try shooting different coloured backgrounds and see if the colour of the spot varies.

What make / model is the camera.

If its the Olympus DSLR you have, you can map out the offending pixels from the menu.

I this Oly are the only manuafcturer to offer this on their consumer DSLR's
