Beginner DDR 3 Ram 240 pins?

Hi, my son got a windows tower with 8GB DDR3 ram now as I understand it doubling the ram will help with speed/performance by how much I don't no. Looking online a single stick to go alongside the one installed all seem to have 240 pins is this the same on all DDR 3 ram? thanks you, Russ.

There's two main form factors for DDR3, desktop and laptop (SODIMM) so you just need to make sure you get DDR3 desktop memory and you should be fine. All the desktop DDR3 modules should used 240 pin but DDR2 does as well just to be careful, they are physically different so you can't put a DDR2 DIMM into a DDR3 slot. You need to make sure you get one with the right minimum speed and I'd recommend getting one as close to the other for better chance of compatibility, some motherboards can be a bit unpredictable with faster memory even though it should work fine.

Hi, I no ram will increase performance but think it is the gpu that is slowing things down it as only 2gb, Gforce gt730 and from what I can find that is an old card but cannot see what options would be better as I no how to change one but not the card itself as very small card system card. Can you advise please what card would work, preferably 6GB card?

How big is your power supply?

Larger GPUs often need their own power feed and generally need a PSU of around 600w or more (possibly 500w if you don’t have much else in the case such as extra hard drives etc).
