I'm going to take in a daytrip to London in a few weeks time, getting there at about 11am and leaving just after 7pm.

What, from a photographical POV should I look to squeeze into my time?

Am I right in thinking that the "graffiti" on the Tate Modern (?) has been removed?

I'd like to go on the London Eye and over the Millenium Bridge while I'm there.

Well !! Where to start?

Personally i love the south bank so i'd say the milennium bridge and the eye is a must. The graffitti was still on the Tate on Saturday when i was along there, but i don't know for how much longer it's there.

Also along the South bank at the county Hall gallery (beside the Eye) is the Dali Exhibition. I'm not suggesting to go inside but the peices outside the building may spark an interest for you.

All of the above are within a short walk of eachother.

There's more that others will recommend

Where is the Tate Modern in relation to the Eye?

I'm keen on staying on the south bank too. The Gherkin is that side as well isn't it?

the tate is just a short and pleasing walk along the river side, maybe 10-15 mins..

The Gherkin is on the other side of the river but can be seen all along the area by the Tate..

As Fraggle said, the Gherkin is on the other side of the river, but if you want to see that then the Lloyds building and Natwest tower are in the same area too.

As you're there all day, you have plenty of time to see quite a lot.

Are you thinking of going on a weekend? If you're interested, have you considered putting a notice in the meeting place thread to see if a fellow Tog might be up for giving you a bit of company? They may be able to give a bit of a tour at the same time.

Just a thought

Nah it'll be midweek for me, weekends are for football!

I looked on the map earlier and a walk along the south bank could throw up a few good photos, then across into the City / St Pauls.

ok, this sounds mad and very touristy but it might just work. As soon as you arrive in the city, find the nearest tourist bus stop and book a day ticket on the city tours buses, climb aboard and just get off where and when you fancy. They are hop on / hop off and cover all the major tourist attractions like the tate, parliament, eye, the globe [inc millenium bridge and st pauls] and so on. Like I say a bit mad but it will get you to places if you dont know London too well and arent sure what to photograph.

Alternatively, if its a weekday, give us a shout and I will come with, show the bits you wanna see. ;)

Nah, thanks but no thanks. I have an idea of what I want to see and the underground travelcard is much cheaper and easier than that :)

If you're going to the Embankment then think about taking a boat trip up the Thames. There is a nice trip that takes you from Big Ben towards Tower Bridge ... you'll pass The Tate and a few very nice landmarks.

Of course, if you go up The London Eye, you will get to see so much .. just make sure to have a Circular Polariser to try to defuse the reflections out of the windows. While up there, try to get some shots of passengers in cabins infront and behind you .. you may be happily surprised if a sexy person posed for you (a model did that for me in my last trip up there .. and wow was she hot and new how to pose).

Another area to cover is Canaray Wharf (sp.). You can spend a whole day out there, and if you are getting the travelcard you can get to there relatively cheap. I did a silly mistake by taking a taxi to there (cost me a good £40) .. but was well worth every pence spent. Keep in mind, you may need prior permission to photography in that part of the city. I was asked by security not to shoot, since I seem to have had "professional" gear with me. Still, I managed to shoot a lot and it was a wonderful experience.

If you go down the other end of The Thames, you can go to Kew Gardens and the Botanic Gardens. Check that out, it is fantastic, espeically if you want to try and do the "Tree Top" walk. You may be lucky with what you see.

Sometimes Regent St. is closed for some off event. They've done this a number of times in the past week. On one occassion it was for the London to Brighton car race; on another occassion it was a Spanish Festival with all sorts of Spanish dancers (very hot and exotic); on another occassion it was a food festival. The times were too many to list here.

You can then enjoy Covent Gardens. Lovely lively place to go to.

No visit to London is complete without a walk in Bond St. (both Old and New) ... there you can shoot some of the most exotic cars in the world. Just parked for your eyes to enjoy. RR Phantom, Mercedes SLRs, Lambourghinis, and the list goes on and on and on.

If that's not enough, you can cover all that walking which would take you about 8 hours. Very much worth every blister you may develop.

London is The Capital of Earth .. and it should rightfully be named so. You just can't get enough of it, but a bit on the expensive side.

If only someone would give me a limit-less credit card, I'd be a happy Londoner :)
