Yes
I'm intending on purchasing a mini photo studio for some macro photography and still life. I've found a nice little studio and now I'm looking at lighting.

I presume I'll need 4 light sources

- my Canon 580EX mkII speedlite camera mounted,
- 2 lamps either side of the studio,
- a lamp on top above the studio to eradicate shadows.

I've got 2 desk lamps which I want to use as the side lights and I want to replace the bulb to something that resembles daylight rather than the yellow glow. Would something like this solve the problem? My lamps are only rated to 40W with SES screw in bulbs - http://www.cheapenergysavinglightbulbs.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=27_82&products_id=333

Many thanks,

Those lights are very low power, which won't matter too much as long as you have a good tripod and can exclude other lighting.

BUT they are designed for household use, and the Color Rendition Index (not stated) is bound to be very low, which means that the colour rendition will be way out (reds will photograph as orange etc)

Ah right, it seems you are suggesting they are best to be avoided.

Could you suggest any bulbs that might be suitable?

No I haven't! I've got a wireless trigger and 2 nodes for the speedlites, but only one speedlight.

How much is 'cheap' and which brands / models should I be looking at?
