Day out to wex tomorrow! M43 purchases incoming

Really excited. Birthday weekend means I have some money for used kit at wex, so I'm going in-store in Norwich for the first time ever to test out a bunch of kit and see what I like.

I have an em1 mark ii and plan on having a full kit of a kit zoom, wide prime (14 or 17mm), short tele prime (45mm 1.8 already mine!), kit normal zoom, super tele of some kind for casual bird/wildlife (maybe 75-300mm or the pana 100-300?) and a 60mm olympus macro.

What will I get tomorrow? Who knows! But any recommendations much appreciated. I am leaning toward macro + kit zoom, for general photography and insects. That should keep me busy over the next year while I save up for something else. Any particularly good/bad lenses to avoid?

May also see if I can find a small flash, like the godox tt350.
 
Have a look at the Sigma 56mm f1.4 art lens.... Stunning value for the money and it's super sharp even wide open..... Check YouTube for review....

I got the Godox flash for £70 from Wex.... Super compact and great control. Only used it once but well pleased.

I already have the 45mm 1.8 so I don't think I'll be getting another fast prime in that short tele range - although, maybe I'll try one and consider trading the 45mm in!

I'm pretty impressed with the little 45 though, focuses quickly and is nice and sharp, and tiny to boot! Certainly a huge difference from my 85mm 1.4 on the nikon...
 
I have the Oly 17, 25 and 45mm f1.8's and my most used is the 17mm f1.8. It's a lovely lens, really well made and with a lovely manual focus option too. Is it the Panasonic 14mm f2.5 you are looking at? If so I have one and I like it a lot.

I'm mostly a prime person but the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 has impressed me and I believe that Oly do a 12-40mm f2.8. These f2.8 zooms are IMO well worth a look for the extra light gathering and DoF abilities compared to the f3.5 or f4-5.6 zooms.

I own the 12-40 F/2,8 Pro and the 40-150 F/2,8 Pro and cannot fault them. If I need a little extra I add on the TC 1.4x but I don't find I need it often.

Depending on the type of shooting you do the 75-300mm (MkII) or 100-400mm may be good options.

I have one prime, the Oly 17mm F1.8 which, as Alan says is a lovely lens and very compact on the Em1 MkII.
 
Glad to hear so many lenses are good!

I "only" have a few hundred quid, so my options are likely:
17mm 1.8 + 40-150mm kit
60mm macro
14mm 2.5 + 75-300mm
12-40 2.8 pro maybe - but less interesting I think!

Optionality!
 
One think about the f2.8 zooms for me is that it helps me to get the same sort of look from a zoom that I'd get from my FF gear whereas the f3.5-5.6 zooms don't really allow that.

Between the 14mm f2.5 and 17mm f1.8 I suppose it depends on the FoV you like and I suppose how compact a package you're aiming for. The 14mm f2.5 is tiny and gives a 28mm FoV which has traditionally been very popular and is I believe the most used FoV today due to smartphones. At the moment I prefer the 17mm f1.8 but I could for sure learn to live with and love and use that 14mm f2.5 as my main lens.
 
Cheers all! Tried a few, and I went for the 60mm macro as expected - a bit over £300.

Staff were friendly and let me try a whole bunch of stuff. Fell in love with the 17mm 1.8 but none second hand for me to buy, new it was a bit rich for me.

Chuffed! Hope to share some insect pics in the coming weeks. Can't believe how small the lens is, but feels nicely put together! I tried the macro stacking feature on the em1 2 and it's fantastic! Obviously hand held so wouldn't auto stack, but good for post. Chuffed!

But need that 17 now...
 
That Oly 60mm is a spectacular lens - good luck with it! I was in wex Norwich this afternoon too as it happens. It was surprisingly quiet in there so got a chance to try out several cameras I’ve been researching.
 
Nice jpegs too, although it tends toward underexposure by about half - one stop, so I pushed in post. Natural profile. Added a bit of vibrance too, but perfect for snaps! 1/5th second exposure - dog was very still, and ibis works wonderfully. The cat was 1/3rd second! Both taken with 45mm 1.8, which is proving itself to be super sharp, fast, tiny and fun. And very affordable! More so than some vintage manual focus 85mm lenses... Mad!

Appreciating the auto white balance. I've set it to preserve warmth, and these photos were under modern led lights. Slr meters seem to struggle and I get weird white balance, but I've not touched these and they look spot on to the scene in real life.
