weekly Davys: My 52 for 2016 - Week 2: "Captive"

Great shot, and story, for old. Very nice.

Metal...fantastic comp and great subject, but for me the PP is just tad overdone and has resulted in some glowing around the statue and trees.

Thanks Ruth...amazing how blind we can be while concentrating on other parts of the photo when processing. I'm about to have another go at this image and pay more attention to the trees this time.

Best,
D. :-)

Thanks for the background on the 'captive' photo which must fit the bill because I thought it was an old prison! Interesting perspective on a beautiful piece of architecture. Surprisingly I don't think I've yet seen anything from the captive's point of view so well done on that one, too.

Great image David, well taken and all the the better for the write up too

Hi David, really like this but I reckon a B&W would look cool too. your desciption above brings the confined feeling more to this picture. Marrakesh is a place on my wish list.

Morning, I like the narrative and agree about the tenuous connection, but I like to processing and great detail.

Cheers.

Hio David

Metal - A great statue, it looks very impressive looking up at it like that, and the B&W really suits it too :)

Captive - Liking the background info, and the image of the door in view through the rails works really well, I like that you can see a bit of wooden shutter too :)

There doesn't seem to be any EXIF detail on either shot ??

Thanks for the comments once again folks. Not sure why there should be no exif info...all I've done is export from Capture One to the desktop, and uploaded to TP from there.

Hi David.
Interesting image & back story for Captive.
It seems a little blown out at the top, not sure how I'd edit it to clean it up, I tried playing with a gradient layer, blending options and various levels of opacity with no joy, but I expect that someone with better PS skills than me could point to a way to reduce the flare.

Thanks for the comments Tim...not to everyone's taste, but it's 'artistic' flare and was deliberately added to the photo during processing.

Hi David. Excellent write-up helps give context. The image itself is a good response to the theme - like the PoV.

Love the story behind Captive and it definitely evokes a feeling of imprisonment so well spotted and like the processing too (y)

sorry catching up with comments

Old - lovely selection for the image
Metal - strong image I like that you included the plaque
Captive - right on theme and good story behind it

Hi David welcome to the madness that is Tp52 challenge

Old: Lovely take on the theme I recently inherited a couple of old cameras and considered using them for the theme, love the old photos too they add an extra depth to the images

Metal: Love the feeling of this shot the B&W conversion adds to the image if a little over worked in places

Captive: Good idea

Hi David,
A great start to your 52. Good shot for Old. Fits the them well.
The statue is a very strong photo with an equally strong story behind it.
Captive really lends itself to the theme. I like the fact I can see another door and maybe the way out? Not that the students would think of it that way from your description. Looks like some light issues at the top third of the frame though.
