weekly David's 52+2 for 2014 - SHAPE

Hi David, agree with everyone about the highlights being blown but I do like the sun that is hitting the tracks, really nice (y)
I too am often out with my two dogs and its impossible to get anything sometimes so well done

Think everything has been covered for crit. I think u did a really good job with the exposure considering the amount of contrast between the foreground and the sky. The only other way you could have delt with it would be to take two exposures and combine them.

Not a bad effort for hand held, I've given up trying to take photos with dogs in tow, it just doesn't work, nice light, it's been said about the blown sun

Thanks Lizzy. That's the reason I got the camera in the first place.

Thats a good idea Nortdog. Another 'b****r' moment. :D

You and me both, 5 spaniels I had to have a camera quick enough to keep up

HI David

Liking that a lot , even with the blown sun...the light on the tracks is a bonus ,plus you have lines in the fence & overhead as well......yup , a big (y) from me

Also quite partial to the clouds shot you posted a link to...quite almost minimalist.....

Cant fault this at all really.....beautifull landscape and use of lead in lines. I would be tempted to clone out the barrier though. Really like how the sun is dead centre with the railway line too :).......Brilliant!

Wow! Thanks everyone!! I am over whelmed with the responses! The shot did feel special and I was rather pleased with myself whilst walking home. The sun/track alignment was pure luck as I just started shooting when I got to that bit. A few little annoyances such as not quite central etc, but I guess if I had a tripod with me I would have took a little more time setting up. But then that wasn't the point of this camera. And I may have been run over with the next train just as I finished my composition.

Been advised to try under exposing next time and seeing what happens with the outcome. Definately one I want to try again! :)

Thanks everyone.
David.

Hello David, like the look of your odd image, i prefer the colour personnally. I think all else has been said.

I really like your line shot. The way the sun reflects off the rails, I can see that yoi have struggled with the contrast in the image with the blown sun and dark center. That said with very little time and impatient dogs i think you have done a good job.

Odd - I actually prefer the mono version as the lighting gives preference to the more interesting right hand sock. The colour of the pink distracts from this I feel. Also good to see that you got down to floor level to take this.
Linear/Line - Ignoring the blown highlights which you mention I really like this. The tones are lovely and again the low viewpoint and lead in lines make this quite a strong image.

When I saw the ODD theme my mind went blank - ODD sock !! DOH! I think the B&W works as the socks are busy. Obviously if plain colours B&W probably wouldn't work.

Your lines are spot on and probably everything that needs to be said has been posted already.

Roll on Week 2 !!

Hi
I like the lead in lines of the track taking you down to the glow of the sun. Would have liked it a bit more central but I know what its like trying to get all these lines to work together. Well done dogs for taking you on a walk to find this view. :)

Lol. Yes they certainly do take me for a walk. One more so than the other.

When you say central, how do you mean? Central over all or central on the track? I was about 1 step too far to the left imo.

Thanks Paul, the lighting was a nice touch. :)

Love it, just the sort of shot i like. Its very tricky to get the sun in any sort of detail without taking multiple exposures. I don't think it takes anything away from the final picture.

In some respects I really like this. The contrast, the sky colour, the clarity of the tracks.
In other ways, it seems a bit off balance in terms of composition, possibly that is down to the pylon and the open barrier on the crossing...I'm not entirely sure. Also I think it would be better with each bit of the track in the foreground leading right to each corner of the frame....sorry if repeating what others have said, I'm trying to catch up on commenting and don't have the time to read everyone else's comments and look at the photos too! :)

Well porsonally I like the blown sun. It would have been very hard to get the entire scene correct without a couple of exposures on a tripod and some blending. Shadow recovery is only so good and I like how much detail you have retained here.

The blown sun and orange sky gives the photo a kind of nuclear winter feel to it. Bravo!

great shot with both the railway and overhead cables as lines !

Cheers for the positive comments, it's really spurred me on! :)
Makes quite a difference I think, feeling positive about it. I'm really looking forward to the next theme!!!

Yes Rich, definately. :)

Thanks Tim. Alot of people have mentioned the power lines, but as the theme was LINES, i wanted to leave them in along with the railway lines, barrier, fence etc. (y)

I my self am not to sure on this it looks as if it could do with some straightening as it looks like it's on the wonk. I do like the idea tho and the bright colours are grabbing my attention.

Yeah i'm definately not sure. The bottom is straight and the top is not. It's a bit of a 'get it out the way' shot for me really. Was a little disappointed i couldn't get out to do my other shot i had in mind and with the dark nights it's not like it's something i can do after work either.

Hi, very bright, not sure on the composition though,
we all have weeks were we are not happy about what we have produced
you could always try a reshoot sometime

Hi David, good start to your 52 (y)
I like your take on the line theme, its got some lovely colour tones in there, I particularly like the low perspective with the leading lines of the track drawing the viewers eye in.

Play, certainly on theme but like some of the others, I am not too sure about, the colours are a little distracting.

A good early submission too, good work!

Hi, Play, symmetry a tad off. Suspect the board is slightly bent. I thought the WB was off as it's very yellow, but the Scrabble at the bottom is white

Cheers.
