Dave's 52 Project 2010 - Week 16 'Stare' added

Hehe.....wierd, but works for me!

I do feel a little uncomfortable now though:suspect:

Cheers, Rob

I feel like I need a wash now, there's something definitely not right with him

Shame about the railings behind but the subject is interesting enough that you don't really notice it.

Qi = energy, gong = work. Therefore qigong is energy work. It's best understood as a medical form of Tai Chi. The difference is qigong is usually a series of exercises you repeat over and over again for a period of time rather than the flowing and constantly changing moves in a Tai Chi set.

who won the draw? :D Billy the kid I guess :lol:Nice shot Dave. ;)

Great shot Dave...

Could be Qigong Dean... it does look a bit like it, but I thought in that pose, the arms were supposed to be more out and rounded, although I guess even that varies by teacher.

Excellent 'stare' - quite scary in fact. Reminds me of Action Man with those arms! Spot on the theme.

That is a great capture - and distinctly scary! I'd be tempted to crop the top so that you don't see the highlit top of the fence. I think it would make it look even more surreal....

Absolutely excellent shot for Chemistry Dave - and thanks for sharing how you did it. I'm always fascinated in how some of these shots are achieved.

Boy is that one scary guy in your Candid shot.:runaway:

He looks like a doorman and somebody has pinched the nightclub :D

Great shot though

Yey I'm so excited to see this thread after spending the best part of Saturday reading your 365 from last year!

:-)
Thanks very much Tinytog :D

he looks pretty scary to me, also looking up qigong as i type.

Thanks all. I think the railings add to the shot - as in, is he on the right side of them? :)

Excellent shot! He 'probably' is purely innocent and practicing/meditating.....but I'm afraid I want to go and photoshop him into some sort of zombie/cyborg!
 I know what you mean Sonia

It all makes sense now you've explained it - but somehow I wished you hadn't!

Thanks mate

I hope you used a long telephoto lens for this shot
He looks just too scary.
Yep - 200mm :D

Thanks a lot Paul :)

hehe I am surprised you took this shot, if I'd have seen him I'd of done a runner...well caught and thought provoking photo :)

 He's really freaking me out Dave!
Something about that pose, the expression on his face and the fixed stare that I imagine behind those glasses.

Dean's explanation makes sense, but there's still something very creepy about it.
He also looks suspiciously similar to somebody I work with which is just adding to the freakiness.

All of that aside, it's a really good shot and the B&W adds a good bit of moodiness. I'd be tempted to crop to lose the top of the fence though.

Looks like he's just spotted you taking his picture and is ready to attack

nicely captured. Now...

RUN!

 Thanks, though to be fair, there were lots of other people around...

Thanks Sarah, yeah someone else said about cropping the fence off at the top - I think you're right. :)

How mother nature can 'produce' fantastic colours! :D

Wow!
The colours in that are simply breathtaking - absolutely gorgeous.
I love the reflection and the way that the colours are picked up and reflected in the foreground rocks. It really is a stunning shot.

I'm not quite convinced about the placement of the horizon though. Really in two minds about it.
Part of me loves the feeling of space in that expanse of sky, but another part of me would like to see the horizon higher in the shot with a lot of the sky cropped out to bring more of the focus onto the foreground . . . I can't quite make up my mind on this one

Another great shot Dave. You can't beat mother nature when it comes to 'producing' the goods! Lovely colours.

Thanks Sarah. I like the dark space :)

Nice idea on a dull theme Dave. I really like the warm tones of the sun against the menacing looking sky. A good strong composition too. Good job
Thanks Chris. I was extremely lucky with this shot - right place, right time! :D

great photo dave, fantastic colours
Cheers Jon :)

Very true Paul, thanks :)

Some nice light on them there rocks. Not sure if it's me being on the MBP rather than my desktop, but it looks like you've pushed the saturation a little too far as there's some funny banding around the sun on my screen. :(

Thanks Lee, yeah I noticed the banding - I do't think it's on the original raw file - will check. I didn't push the saturation in PP as the camera was set on 'vivid'.

Top standard with pretty much all of your shots! Love the colour and "sillhouette-esq" of play. And chemistry is a fantastic idea, this idea never even occurred to me.

Your candid shot has gone walkabout on me, so I'll pop back later if you get a chance to fix it.

Your last shot, sunset, is a fine shot too. When I think about it this wasn't it an easy theme to produce . Although, it's a hard theme to make the photo scream out "produce", but there's so many takes on it it brought out a nice variety of photos as a result.

Anyway, I enjoy popping into your 52, so keep it up!

Lovely... wonderful colours and an amazing scene Dave.

. . . and looking at it for a second time I think I'm inclined to agree with you
Thanks Sarah :D

Fantastic shot and colour - great work indeed ;)
Thanks very much dade

Cheers Coner. Hopefully 'Candid' is fixed now :)

Cheers John, it's a lovely location, just a shame about the steep climb back up the cliff!

13.52 - Quad Spikes :D

A hard one this week. I was stuck for an idea. Went out with the 300mm f/4 and Kenko x1.4TC today to shoot some ducks and eureka! I saw Quad Spikes

I would never have associated that with quad in a million years. Very clever, unique take on the theme.
Love the PP on this, simple but effective and the diagonal composition is spot on.

With this type of shot, you can't afford to get much wrong with the subject . . . and IMO you haven't.
I like this a lot

Pretty cool. Not something that immediately springs to mind.
Thanks Nattelie :)

Thanks Sarah, as I said, it was a bit of a eureka moment - didn't have a clue what I wanted to do before today :D

hi dave just trying to catch up on a few weeks i have missed some fantastic images really like your chemistry and produce shots can i ask what you used/did on the produce shot that really stands out for me,quad has been a difficult week and like your interpretation well done

Neat stuff.
Love it when people go off on mad tangents and still hit the mark.

Superb liking this shot....even though I despise the subject matter :).... I've seen some nasty injuries from barbed wire :( ...and it's made holes in far too many pairs of jodphurs/coats etc

That's a very strong and simple image and definitely fits Quad with it's four barbs, I might be tempted to get rid of what looks like a bit of cobweb on the lower right hand side but that's being picky. Very good, I like it:).
