Daughters wedding

Hi Tony.
It looks like I am free that weekend! I'll be there if nothing comes up, like an open day at a University that my son is waiting to hear from or a trip that my wife may need to do. It's very unlikely that these will fall on that weekend. I will know within the next few days. But as it is, we will be there mate!
No doubt we will be in touch by pm to sort things out nearer the time. You can now concentrate on making sure the day goes to plan for your daughter. :D
Can you make sure that the caters don't skimp on the sausage rolls please. I do like quality. :D

Kev.

Just to avoid confusion its Saintbridge not St Bridge. I had the displeasure of going to school there. Not quite in Matson, but close enough. And it's St Katharine church

I would offer to shoot also, but I'm rubbish at people, I prefer things that don't move.

You may come in handy then Tom! Do you know of a nice place to stay for the night? Pub/hotel. Price isn't a major issue. Must be nice though. I don't do dumps anymore. Too old for that. :D
Somewhere not too far from the evening venue.

There is/used to to be a rather nice hotel not far away on the hill, opposite a ski slope. Not sure if it's still there, I'll need to look into it. There is another country hotel called Hatton Court just up the road too. Not sure on the prices, as I don't have the need to stay 2 miles from home!

Tom, any idea what The Hallmark Hotel is like? It says that it is only 0.2 miles from Matson.

Ah, thats the one I was refering too on the hill. Used to be the Ramada. I wasnt sure if it was still open. It has a large golf course, ski slope and lots of other things. Certianly looks nice and I havent heard anything bad about it. But at the same time I havent really heard anything at all about it. Its recently been overhauled, so should be fine and its literally 2 minutes from the church. The reception venue will be a taxi ride, but its still not far at all.

As above, great to see people helping each other out. I love taking photos at the weddings of friends and family members but I would echo all the comments above about being able to relax and enjoy the day a bit more if you're not the main photographer in the evening.

Only one thing to add, which was kind of mentioned above, is to do with disposable cameras on the tables. I got married six years ago, and instead of spending money on disposables and film processing, I face-printed a stack of blank CDs, put them inside paper sleeves and then inside some stamped addressed envelopes and asked people to take one away with them the next morning and send me back the photos. They were wicked, and captured a completely different side of the day to the pro shots we had done. In this day and age, people are going to be shooting hundreds of shots between them, but all on their phones and compacts, not on the cheap disposables that they find on the tables.

Perhaps in the last six years things have moved on even more and you should just ask people to upload them somewhere?...

"I am working on the the theory that if I fire off as many shots as my memory cards will allow we will get a few nice photo's,"

Are you seriously working on the principle that if you machine gun enough shots you will get something half decent at the end, that's a very risky strategy for such an important day

Have you read the rest of the thread? I'm guessing not.

Wow what an awesome offer from Kev - there really are some nice people left in the world!

I'd echo the above comments about getting someone else to do it. I went to my girlfriend's cousin's wedding last year and just took my gear along for the hell of it. Turned out they had much the same situation with the official photographer doing the ceremony, register and a few formal shots outside afterward and then disappearing.

Whilst the father of the bride was a semi-keen photographer with an Olympus DSLR, I knew he'd not get much chance to take pictures himself so took it upon myself to grab as many shots of the reception and evening do as I possibly could. They obviously weren't expecting anything of me but most of the shots turned out well and they were grateful to have them. I think the father of the bride was quite grateful I was there as it took the pressure off him to take shots himself and he could relax and enjoy himself a bit more.

Well done Kev! I saw that Weenson also offered, what a fantastic gesture from you both.

I agree that it would be tricky for a father of the bride to do the job in amongst all the other things going on. We took some at a friends wedding last year as we are in a little photography group with the groom, his brother in law and now father in law. Worked well as we did not have the worry of taking the main photos but were able to contribute something a little in advance of the shots from the cameras on the tables. Our friend does weddings and has a case full of p and s cameras which he puts on the tables for guests to use. Better quality than the disposables but he has to remind people not to take them!

Anyway, back to the topic, I hope that you have a wonderful day and fill the lads to the brim with sausage rolls!

Thank you Tracey. The way this year is going, I'm sure it will be upon us very quickly! :)

Hi Kev,

Yes, it will be Christmas again in a flash. Mind you, that will be another good excuse to eat sausage rolls!

Best wishes,

Tracey

This must be one of the most generous thing I've seen in a decade!

Well done Kev and enjoy the big day Tony!

Thanks Tom. I'll get two rooms booked then!

I forgot to do this until now!! Can't believe that it's May already! All sorted now. :)
Just need Nikon to sort me a camera out by then. :bang:

Blimey, it's only 4 weeks away now. I haven't heard from Tony and have noticed that he hasn't posted on here since June.
I hope all is ok and going to plan.

Kev.

Got any other contact details?

No. He says earlier in the thread that he doesn't come on here very often. We did pm each other in the early days of this.Maybe he will be in contact nearer to the time. I've pm'd him. I don't mind if he has decided that he would rather I didn't do it.

Kev.

Wow a wonderful gesture Kev, I don't have any children but things must be hard if the father is going to miss out on the wedding of their daughter.

Nice to see there are some good guys still around :)

Very nice gesture.

I would very much doubt it mate!

Also this is an absolutely fantastic thing to see. Photography purely for the fun and love of it.

Doing it for money really changes the whole outlook and perspective on it and if I had the choice now in hindsight I'd keep it that way

By the way my friend you have EPIC gear for an amateur!!!!!!

Big day is here. Had a panic yesterday. My gearbox packed up on my Range Rover on Thursday afternoon. But pulled in some help from the auto gearbox specialists I use and they collected the car yesterday morning, took it to Huddersfield and it will be back at 9.30am today.
Then straight down to the church. Hopefully in time to see everyone. Just checked the mileage. It's 199 miles away. I hope that we can make it in time.
It's going to be a long day. But fun!

Kev.

Problems with a Range Rover, how unusual..........;)

Best of luck kev............

Driving a Range Rover and we are on a budget lol
But all the best anyway, have a great day, don't forget to enjoy it

I've never said that I'm on a budget? I think you probably meant the OP. that's why we are helping.

She said she saw the wedding party outside the church at about 2.30. Not sure if you were there then.

No. Was in the hotel. We had spoken to the pro tog, to see if he was doing outside shots. He was, so we kept out of the way.
We've done some reception shots. Going back later for the night do.
