Daughter

Tony,i`m far from an expert, but your daughters portrait could have used some flash to lighten her face up a tad.As I said,i`m no expert, perhaps somebody more knowledgeable will be along shortly.

There seem to be a few problems there, the exif info is not in the file any more so you'll need to tell us what you used and what settings it was on. The photo seems to be very soft possibly through a bit of camera shake, it's also very noisy which makes me think it's underexposed, the right side of her face looks a bit solarised too, I think the strong light from the window is the cause of that.

I'd agree with Step, there is some camera shake indicating a slow shutter speed. I also think the metering has been fooled by the window which hasn't helped with the exposure. I suspect it's been underexposed and then lightened hence the posterisation look in the shadows. It's really quantumisation, meaning there is not enough graduation to give a smooth effect. ( Tip if you have to do this on a badly underexposed jpeg , convert to 16 bit mode do the adjustment then drop back to 8 bit, it does help)

Window light shots can give problems, here I think it's one of underexposure. using the histogram function on the camera could help determine if the image has been correctly exposed.

More information would be helpful
