No
Just wanting re asuring but Leagues does Data Co not allow you to display images from. I think its Premier League and Football Leagues but want someone to correct me if im wrong.

I was photographing Woking v AFC Wimbledon this Sat at a friendly match and was wanting to display some of my images for critique. As AFC Wimbledon are Blue Square Premier and Woking Blue Square South is there a problem displaying my images on here.

Please let me know

Premier League and Football Leagues are a no-no. Scottish Leagues are a no-no. Blue Sq leagues (ie. The Football Conference) are not covered by DataCo but they do administer their own licences. I know in previous seasons people have been OK, but I'm not sure if there's a growing trend for people to keep stuff "hidden" just to be on the safe side.

KIPAX might be better to advise...I've displayed Conference stuff before with no issue.

Thanks James I think as it was a Friendly it should be ok. As it is to do with lincenses and rights there are plenty of people putting up photos where they would normally need a pass. Was only going to put a few up from match.

Its a no no I am afraid.. friendly or not.. your right plenty of people do put them up.. but if you have conference licence you risk losing it,

You are able to put photos of scottish premier and football league games on the internet, no issues at all with it as far as i'm aware(i know people who have senior positions in the scottish football league as well who haven't said anything)

Dataco are only involved in scottish football in relation to the copyright of fixture lists.

I would be wary of the Scottish games at the moment, they don't know their elbows from their backsides.

Last season a lad was filming (ok not the same thing but close enough) his local games in the Highland League and providing a highlight show which was welcomed by many who worked off-shore. But got hit with a warning of a huge fine and possible legal action taken against him if he continued by the HFL.

This was all due to the Sectary in the Highland League getting contradicting info/advice from the SFA, who then made up his own mind without any real knowledge on the subject. Eventually it was sorted out and the lad was allowed to continue to film for the rest of the season but not sure if he's going to be able to do it for this season coming up.

i remember this... thread was posted to most UK footy websites and we all went and supported the lad online :)

That is video footage, all copyright. No issues with the photos though(i have had photos of mine ont he sfl site multiple times).

The highland leagues and juniors both have loads of videos on youtube, they don't care anymore(free advertising for the teams), and they guy has continues with no problems i believe. The sfl and spl it is taken seriously.

The juniors and highland leagues are filled with people who are on a power trip(the sfl and spl are too), but the spl and sfl have rules covering everything. If there were issues with publishing pics I would have heard by now.

Can anybody explain how they are allowed to do this?

I don't understand the legalities, it seems insane.

Dataco operate on behalf of the FA, the FA own all rights to Stills/Video Imaging.

Dataco are responsible for regulating who has commercial access to Premier League/Npower Championship/L1/L2. They decide who can/cannot be given access to matches and all Agencies have to sign a very comprehensive licensing agreement each season before they are issued accreditation.

Football is big business therefore people selling stills/video imaging are tightly regulated.

Several freelance photographers have been banned from shooting football for breaking the rules

I have often wondered about this, if you were stood on public land and took a picture of the game, training etc (I know that this would be difficult in most places) why do they have the rights to the image and not you?

Trouble is most big teams do not play on public land.

He means like on a public hill, or in a public tree, over looking a stadium... quite possible in many football league stadiums around the country!

Indeed it is...Twerton Park in Bath had hoardes of local kids all stood on a hill outside...

And when I was a lad at West Ham there were garages opposite the West Stand (in the corner between the Chicken Run and the Bobby Moore lower - when it was the South Bank it was enclosed) that all the kids used to stand on and watch the game.

I think recently, they put one of the big screens in that corner to stop it.

But in theory, it would've been possible...not sure where the legality of it would be. I presume, as its a Premier League/Football League team, playing in a PL/FL stadium, then it would be covered even if you were on public land.

Hello all, new here but I hope I am welcome.

I was invited to take photo's at a Championship match 2 seasons ago by a particular football club. I had to sign a deceleration that my photos would not be used by myself for personal gain, which I did and ended up on the touch line in the thick of the action. I had no license but the club secretary said it should be fine as the pictures were for the clubs use in the future. However, after the game I was duly reported to the FA and other authorities by another photographer who was present at the match and banned for even applying for the appropriate license for 12 months. The whole incident was very unpleasant and unnecessary.

I would always recommend finding out exactly what you need to take photos at a football match, friendly or otherwise as ultimately the buck stops with you and it is you that will be punished or suffer in the long run. All a bit ridiculous but it comes down to photographers and their potential livelihoods I suppose.

Don't think this helps but thought I would mention it.

You'd have been shooting under the clubs license and therefore should have been alright

I think you'd still get in bother for shooting from a vantage point... they're on private land, have walls and fences and I think they would be fairly claiming 'expectation of privacy' even before you get into the commercial ownership of premiership pimages. I know even Liverpool's training ground has 'No Photography' signs all round it.

That is what I thought - incorrectly and it cost me, the football club were also warned in writing about the incident. I was merely warning against the same thing happening to anyone else

I despise other photographers who do things like this.. theres no real need for it .. I have had people try to get me in trouble with dataco .. hasnt worked but they like trying.. when I say they.. its just one person..
