Edit My Images
Yes
Half way through my Asia trip I ran out of space on my memory card. I had the pics put onto a couple of CDs and then went to a posh hotel with nice computers to check that the pics were on the discs. They were. I am home now and I have just tried to put them onto my computer and my computer says that the discs are empty! WTF!?!

Am I screwed? Can I recover the data from the memory card? Does my computer need to speak Vietnamese as thats where I got the data transfer done.

Please help.

You said you ran out of space on your memory card - if you've taken new photographs on those cards - some of the original files will obviously be gone.. Depending as to how much you filled the cards on the second use will determine how many of the original images you can recover..

The discs you saved to - were they CD's or DVD's? And whatever they are - does your player read this type of disc? Have you tried them in another machine?

I have used up all the space on the same card. As a matter of fact I deleted some crappy pics to give me a bit of room for taking photos on my last few days. The pics were saved to DVD RAMedia. My initial thoughts were that perhaps my computer could not read them because they were there when I checked and I did not delete until I was able to confirm that the pics were on the dics.

Well if you've used up all the space a second time - the images from the original shoot will surely be gone. No doubt.

Your best option is to find a machine that can access the existing disc.

It's always sore to learn things after an event - but next time you travel - take more than enough memory.. I don't want to be negative at a time of panic - but with memory prices being as low as they are these days, if you're spending hundreds to travel to somewhere exotic on a once in a lifetime trip.. Invest in more memory... I guess it's a lesson for next time.. but for now let's see if you can find a machine that can access this disc...

Good luck :)

Just a thought, but are there Mac-pc compatabiltity issues? I've had similar problem- if copied from mac to pc it works but not the other way round

See here under Compatibility http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-RAM. We've had a few of these disks where I work, it seems to be a popular format in the Far East and they can be difficult to read but you should be able to find a reader on the internet.

Snappy Snaps says they can sort things out for a score.. Pics show on there computer but not mine.

Cheers all.
