£1300 worth of damage

The guy who put the video up said:
I went to the Supercars of the North West meet yesterday. I tend to park away from everybody but there was no chance of finding a quiet place in Southport yesterday. Anyway, when I returned to the car it was badly keyed and the car parked next to us was obviously gone. 2 panels damaged and to me, it looks like full respray will be needed. Possible further damage as he dinged the rear panel with his door but the car is so filthy I can't really tell if it has done any damage.

There was no visible CCTV cameras anywhere and I thought he will get away with it. I thought I might have caught his reg plate when I was parking up but even then I didn't think it would be enough to prove it was him who's done it.

Anyway, absolutely raging I got home and started going through the dashcam footage and hoping I caught his reg plate. At that point, I was 100% sure the dashcam stops recording as soon as the car is locked and the power is cut off. Well, I was wrong big time. Apparently, the amazing Mobius dashcam has some sort of sensor and starts recording as soon as there is any movement near the car. Guess what, not only I have caught his reg plate but also what the person looks like and I have a footage of him damaging my car.

Put the volume up when watching it. To those only interested in him causing the damage skip to 2:45. He applies a 'final touch' 10-15 seconds after the initial keying. Notice that normally you can barely hear anything going around even when cars drive past or when he opens the driver's door so the sound of the car being damaged is definitely obvious.

If you watch the video he slams his car door into the other car a couple of times before keying it, making sure the coast was clear...

So this has been going on for a couple of weeks, with delays in contacting the offender over Easter. The happy ending is, the policeman assigned to the case finally looked at the video, contacted the other driver who after a while and the officer saying they had video footage, admitted it and immediately paid for the damage. He said the BMW had been parked too close and annoyed him, yet he arrived after the damaged car was parked.

Luckily your dashcam started when it did, (you must have it hard wired), don't forget to ask for damages to lost time/hiring a car for the week (even if you don't) . If he can do this terrible damage and think he can get away with it, take the p*** out of him and take what you can.

Unfubbing believable, absolutely raging must have been an understatement mate - what a total git and for what...

I really hope the police take it further with him, paying up and getting caught is an easy out for him...

Hope you get it sorted out perfectly :)

Don’t think it was the OPs car.

Not my car - just an incident on a car forum I'm on, also on a bmw owners site.
Owner was pushing the police for a conviction, but they said it would go to court and if found guilty the culprit may ask for time to pay, so it was a better solution for the damage to be paid for this way. They have assured him this incident will be on his record.
Quite shocking behaviour.

I now have dashcams on my TVR, will be buying the same front and rear recording system for the MX-5. Despite parking at the empty end of the car park, the TVR was keyed last year and then someone hit the back of it whilst parking behind, denied everything despite a witness. That was a £5k respray as the whole car had to be done. It's also handy when out on events

You on BabyBMW also? What a shocking thing to do tbh and delighted for the guy it was sorted out.

Which system d'you use?

disgusting behaviour ,a good result but obviously pure jealousy on the gorillas part

An official caution was issued if it is to remain on record. Quite right too, at the very least.

Not on BabyBMW, just saw the post was repeated on there as well.

Two tiny cameras connect over micro usb so they aren't seen easily. The recording unit is small, easily disconnected (4 micro USB). Full GPS positioning. It starts recorded when power comes on, but will also record if it detects anything.
The plan was to buy extra cameras and swap the recorder between bike and car, but the bike was written off by a woman driver changing lanes without looking before I got to it. Shame as we're both insured with the same company so they declared 50/50, even though the police report said she hadn't seen me when she changed lanes...

stuff like that just goes on all the time it is why I decided years ago to not bother spending money on cars.
my little sleepy town is full of fancy cars and so many complaints by people of folk trying to steal them.

I am lost here! which car gets keyed by who? all I can see is a guy stood next to a car having a drink !!

Listen to it with the volume on. He casually moves around with the drink whilst people are around, waits for the to go and keys the car. you can hear it, keys in his hand, see his body move at the end in conjunction with the sound.
He also admitted to the police to doing it when told they had him on video

What a complete and utter womble.

I had a car keyed many years ago, not a nice experience at all, happened to on a sunny Saturday lunchtime and all I could ask at the time was why?
