Darts walk on ladies scrapped

.....he only deserves discussion in the context of ‘how could anyone ever have accepted that kind of thing?’

As I said, it seems more about the individual than the joke.

Phil, you're missing the point/deflecting anyway. We all find different things funny or humorous & there isn't anything wrong with that.
Anyone can be `offended` if they want to be & especially easy to do it on behalf of others.

This whole thing and modern society with its ‘openness’ and what ‘equality’ means is over complicated.

Personally I couldn’t care less about grid girls, or darts walk on girls or cheerleaders etc. I personally find it irrelevant.

But if some women feel that it’s demeaning then that needs considering. But it’s not all one sided, the Diet Coke Guy is the most notable, but men are used in exactly the same way. Am I offended? No.

But now the genie is out of the bottle, it needs proper grown up debate, and that’s sadly lacking, we end up with knee jerk reactions on both sides, and resorting to the lowest common denominator.

I think it’s fair to say it’s pointless arguing about it. Some will agree and some will disagree. I think some disagree because it seems the right thing to do and jump on the outrage bus. Like it or not a large proportion of the world relies on some form of physical attraction, removing grid girls or walk on girls in darts will not change that.
I guess that none of those who are outraged by all this will be shooting pretty girls or boys portraits in future. I mean what’s the point in that. It’s cleary wrong to make someone look attractive or use that for other people pleasure.

But it’s the judgement of the individual based on his ‘jokes’. Racism isn’t funny, Bernard Mannings humour was cruel in essence, and whilst I appreciate that cruelty has always been an intrinsic part of humour, IMHO the ‘art’ of comedy is a fine balance between having a victim and being outright ‘nasty’. Particularly when that nastiness just becomes the cultural abuse of power. So IMHO humour works best when it’s aimed at the powerful, rather than the powerless.

You’re entitled to find Bernard Mannings jokes funny, I never suggested you weren’t; and again, I’m perfectly free to judge you for that. The joy of a free society is that no one is above being judged.

You like to insinuate that I make things ‘personal’ whilst missing the irony of that (your constant banging on about that is as much of a personal attack as I’ve ever made on anyone), and ‘personal opinions’ are exactly that, they’re personal, so it’s impossible to judge someone’s opinion without in some way judging them.

These personal jabs between forum members are exactly the type that turn potential new members and some long standing ones off these types of forum. Differences of opinion on photo related topics are one thing but with the off topic threads become insult tennis is starts the down ward spiral.

I think the older you get the harder it is to accept change of any kind.

When I was growing up, if you murdered someone you were hanged now in many cases you do less than 10 years in prison and you are back on the streets.

If 2 men were caught "together" they went to prison for indeceny now they can get married.

Now men are being made to feel guilty for looking at pretty ladies.

Whats next I wonder in what I consider to be a politically correct crazy world.

He never said they were forced!
Never said he did. But it is a job. Someone advertises it, if no one applied for it, then there wouldn't be any would there. They aren't being exploited and probably happy to do it.

But why quote someone to contradict something they didn’t post?

And see above, I don’t believe anyone was being exploited either, I’d like to see more than a knee jerk reaction on both sides.

Did you just make a direct comparison between murder, homosexuality an ‘looking at pretty ladies’

Wow!

I think that most murderers are locked up longer than ten yrs. As I live it Brighton I think it`s fantastic that two people can marry if they love each other, as at the end of the day love is love.

What I find confusing is all this talk about people being out of work. As I have said before I don't see many girls who's actual career is "grid girl" as has been pointed out they do other work as well. For some it is there "weekend hobby" What I do question is the actual need for them. My thing would be why not do it a bit like some of the football teams use match-day mascots. A lottery/ request from charities.

Size has never been an issue for me, personality, outlook, honesty etc etc.

An acquaintance I rarely see these days, stated that as ‘his’ wife, she should aim to keep her clothes size to 8-10, unless she was pregnant! He converted the garage to a gymnasium as he expects, after 3 children she ‘may’ get fat. The standing penalty - divorce!

Puts womens’ anger into context about abuse and power play by men.

Before Christmas, I watched the series about the Trumpard - "Make America Great Again", and the majority involved my OH watching me in case I threw something at the telly.
Apparently, he divorced his first wife Ivana, because he couldn't stand women's bodies after they had given birth.
The alleged affair with Stormy Daniels, happened shortly after current wife Melania gave birth to Barron.

The guy is an absolute reptile.

This is of course slightly - widely, off topic but does show the subjective/mysoginistic views of SOME guys towards women.

I do however suspect, that women (some women) view guys in exactly the same manner.

Phil, I wasn't making it personal (between us) I was referring to the actual `joke/humour` itself & depending on the person saying it, whether someone finds it funny, or decides it isn't funny because it's maybe who said it?
Hence posting this after giving Manning & Dawson as an example of the two opposite ends of the spectrum ............ but telling the same joke.

Forced to do it? exploited? What's that got to do with anything?

IF anything it's a cushy little number, getting paid to be pretty, hell I wouldn't mind someone paying me to be stand around being handsome (fat chance!) but it doesn't change the fact that the whole existence of such a 'job' is entirely pointless, What does it add to the sport/event? Nothing. What will be lost if they aren't there? Nothing.

It is glamour and advertising. Would you prefer everything just wrapped in brown paper.

Must have been distracting the viewer from the heavy dose of gambling advertising

At one time it added 'sexiness' in a way that suggested the winner would 'get the girls' (why would hostesses both kiss the winner of a bicycle race?). More recently it's been a way of providing interest to otherwise drab events (is there a much drabber 'sport' than darts?). AFAIK Snooker never used to see the need to parade attractive women, though that may have changed.

I have very mixed feelings about this. Because the use of women in this way is just another slightly tawdry part of celebrity and advertising, and therefore a bit shameful, I'm happy to see it losing acceptability. At the same time I detest the way freedom is being undermined by social pressure from a minority, and no-one is able to stand up and gain-say them.

I must agree with you.

I became fearful of the way the women at my stroke recovery gym sessions would comment on my body and how good I looked in my tracksuit. Asking me constantly if my muscles were real, then wolf whistling me when they saw me in my Chinos, what they would do for me when I was a bit older.

Got to a point where I had to dress down and stop using my favourite Paco Rabanne after shave.

Just what did these women actually want?

A slice of Hugh Jrump?

What is the need? It is each to their own... I don't see the need in Eastenders, Corrie, Call of Duty, IR cameras, karaoke to name but a few things but others do.

You say racism is not funny, is that in relation to Manning or generally? Things like Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Borat could all be considered that, using sterotypes and language, 2 of them are TV classics and Borat is just hilarious (IMO).

You’ll have to point me to the ‘racism’ in blackadder, fawlty towers is ‘of its time’ and if John Cleese wrote it tomorrow it’d conform to modern sensibilities, I’m not a fan of Sacha BC so I’ll have to take your word for whether Borat is racist.

Personally I could never say ‘x is racist but I like it’. That strikes me as a very odd stance.
IMHO Bernard Manning is racist to the point that I’d enjoy seeing him do a round with Mike Tyson. He is a nasty odious man.

so now its grid kids!
where will it all end

how long before the pc brigade decide it is immoral and will lead to abuse?

And blow me, it seems to be a lot of talk on the radio, recently, about suffragettes,
They aren't trying to push this votes for women thing again, are they?

talk on the radio, recently, about suffragettes,

Sounds like Paul McCartney will be dragging that old record out again and hoping to boost his coffers by a few more quid.
