Not sute this is the correct forum to post but here goes

I will be in Dartmouth during the Regatta and wondered if anyone had shot pics at this event, im more interested in the Red Devils display and the Parachute display as well.

Ive never done any of this sort of thing before so was wandering if anyone could offer advice as to where the best place to shoot will be and as to what kit to use

Ive got the following and will be taking it all with me

Nikon D3s
Nikon D700
Nikon AF-S 400mm f/2.8
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
Nikon 1.4x converter

TIA

Hi Gary,

I haven't seen the Red Arrows at Dartmouth for many years. If fact it was so long ago it was before I was into photography so I haven't got any pics to share.
From memory anywhere around the boat float will be crowded but you can get great shots of the arrows with colourful Kingswear as a backdrop.

An alternative and hopefully less crowded option is to head out the the castle area at the mouth of the river.
By coincidence the family and I will be arriving in Dartmouth on Saturday for the week so I might try and convince SWMBO to travel down on the Friday and catch the Arrows and Fireworks.

Only remember this from holidays as a kid (about 20 years ago!) so wasn't into photography but if you want to take pics of the red arrows, a good spot was on the otherside of the river at the top of the hill (Kingswear side) looking down towards Dartmouth itself. Of course this is only really useful for the arrows and doesn't get you that close to the rest of the regatta.

Have a look for dartmouth regatta photos on flickr.... if people have mapped them it might give you an idea of good locations.

If you are on the Kingswear side looking towards Dartmouth from miday on you will be looking into the sun upriver to BRNC should be reasonable to mid afternoon.

Bit late now, as I've only just joined the site, but Jawbones would probably be the best bet.
I've only been to a couple of Regattas in the past, once when I was so small my dad gave me a piggy-back so I could see the fireworks at the Boat Float and another time I wasn't into photography so did have a camera.

I saw the Red Arrows at Dartmouth about 30 years ago, which side to choose depends on what time the display takes place. I was on the Dartmouth side and it was late afternoon.
