After a quick search on Google it appears that the 27'' 2012 iMac has a dust ingress problem, over the last 4 months I've noticed what look like light rays coming from the top corners into 1/3rd of the screen, originally I thought it was literally light but now that it's sunny in my office I can see that it's actually DUST! This thing is only 7 months old, our house is always clean and the office is always spotless (working from home causes OCD)
Do you think I should give Apple a ring or buy the LCD suction clamps and just dust it off myself?

Now on a live chat with Apple, if you have no support left in terms of calls / chat, then select the exemption option and select display issues as this is recognised as a fault :D

Intersting Dave. What have they said in terms of resolving?

You don't need suction cups. Get some brown packing tape and stick it down one side with enough to hold onto. Then gently pull the screen up. It should come of relatively easily and the tape will peel of leaving no residue.

Clean the glass (plastic) and carefully fit it back into place. It's a five minute job.

I just had to take my iMac in for servicing due to the dust/screen issue. Apparently dust is sucked in through vents at the back and bottom and is attracted to something in the corner near the screen, so it accumulates there.

I have the three-year warranty, so they just cleaned out the dust and replaced the screen, no questions asked.

Adrian, apparently they will clean the dust but also remove the LCD panel and check the internals for a possible air leak (which is what the main problem is!)
As they admitted fault, they also stated that even if your iMac is out of warranty on the first purchase year, you can still have it repaired under 2 years due to the EU warranty legislation regarding that a product must be fit for a period of 24 months if that helps any one else. It's not the first time that Apple have admitted defeat regarding faulty computers (namely my 17 macbook pro that had the Nvidia GPU fault).

Thanks Dave - useful as looking at the iMac to replace my 17 MBP - I had the board replaced on mine too!)

2012 iMac? Suction cups won't work, sticky tape won't work. They replaced the magnets with glue. You need a heat gun and a strong nerve.....

Mind you, the glue was supposed to stop the dust. Early 2012 or late 2012?

Early 2012 Jonathan, should have added, it's not the slim DVD free version!
