Does anyone need a free Lightroom alternative?
Darktable is available for PC now, as well as for Mac and Ubuntu among others.

I've just had a quick play with it.
It looks good, but I can't compare it to Lightroom.
I use Photoshop Elements.

I have both LR6 and PSE 15, imo I think once the person gets the hang of DT it will be very good, if you Google then there is a good manual for it.
 
Doesn't accept all file formats. There is a list of those it takes. In my case it doesn't take uncompressed Fuji RAW files which is a bit of a downer.

The reason why I had to get it on my Win 10 laptop was, it will except uncompressed Raf files from both my X-T2 and X-T20, and it does on my Linux laptop too.
 
On the list of acceptable formats it states that only compressed RAF files are acceptable. Are you saying it takes uncompressed files with no problems?
If it does then it's got to be worth a look.

Edit....maybe it' just files from the X-T2. I'll have to check when I'm next on my PC.

I only shot RAW uncompressed. I could try this and as long as I don't delete from my card I can still use files in LR.
 
The more I think about it the more I think it's the T2 that must be compressed. That' tomorrow's job.
 
I've never used lightroom or darktable ive just downloaded it now. It asks to import images. How will this work? will this move all my images on my hardrive to a different folder? Will it duplicate images on my hardrive and add them to a new folder? I'm a little confused how this works.

I just opened a file (image), just the same as Photoshop.

I am still learning with DT, but what I do is click on the image or folder on the LHS then open it up that way.
