Darkslinger's 52 Week Challenge - 2023

Nice set there Bill :)
Thanks Dave.

Connected. absolutely love this shot, lots of negative space, mono conversion spot on and an interesting minimalist theme. I try to get shots like this but at the moment seam to of lost the "eye" for it.
Liquid. Good composition and macro shot.
Thank you Roger, the connected shot was taken on the fly through the ferry window. A lucky capture.
A "little" rain? You should have been here for that last 4 months Bill, we've had plenty!
Good shots as always. Bang on theme.
I also love the ferry shot for "Connected"
Thank you Simon, we actually had a dry spell so the rain came a at a good time for me.
Good shots Bill. You've chosen a good subject for liquid.
Thanks Peter.
The last one is my faourite, What lens did you use?

The ferry shot is great too. and for some reason I really like the first "connected" shot. I think that it brings back very happy memories of many ferry trips to Spain. There were always rusty bits somewhere to be seen.
Thanks Donal, the drops on the window were taken with my Olympus 60mm macro lens.

I like the moodiness and simplicity of the ferry shot.
Lovely colour and dof in the liquid image.. nice one.
Thanks Helen.
Great set again Bill, ferry isolated against the island and lovely shot of the rain drops
Thank you Nog.

Week #18 - Distant.

Only one shot this week. I went out to the Pitt Polder Ecological Reserve and got this image of the distant mountains that I think came out pretty well. I liked the tones in the black and white version.

As you say beautiful tones in this, I always love mountain scenes, some foreground interest. My kind of image, great shot.

Lovely tonal recession and overall nice mood :)

Love the mountains there Bill - is that snow on the far away ones?

Didn't want to say, but feel a bit miffed that you haven't posted a full res version that would fill my screen. :)

Thanks Roger, I wasn't sure how it would turn out given the lighting (beginning of a hot, bright day...little cloud cover...).
Lovely shot. A good choice to present in mono.
Thanks Paul!
Another cracker from you Bill
Thanks for the kind words Simon!
Really nice mountain shot. Great layer separation.
Thanks Barry, an easy spot to get good shots.
Good set of abstracts I like the second leaf one a little more than the rest.
Thanks Allan.
Lovely light and shade. Nice one.
Thank you Helen.
good composition and mono captures the mood.
Thanks Peter!
Lovely image, works really well in B&W.
Thanks Keith!

LOL, yes that is snow Graham. I find that for some reason I can't upload the higher res versions anymore. I used to be able to upload higher res as long as the crop fit the dimensions, now it seems as though I have to change the crop and keep it to much smaller file sizes.

Week #19 - Fragile and Tech.

I took some shots on the weekend but wasn't too happy with them in the context of this week's theme. Luckily, I was puttering around in the garden this morning and noticed these fragile little things poking up through the ground. All are 8 shot focus stacks:

Lovely set of pictures Bill, for me the 2nd picture is the best of a good set- though the stem of the first is unusual.

I take it from your description of things poking up from the ground you, like me, are not much of a gardener:)

Thanks Keith, I actually do like to garden but I take a very laissez-faire approach to it, so, sometimes, I have unintended, but interesting, things seed themselves...

Nice set, 4 is my fav, but the one you chose probably suits the theme better.

An excellent collection of 'shrooms and toadstools, which I prefer over the sprouting plant.

Great set of images Bill for fragile, like them all but your choice was spot on.
Thanks Dave.

Thanks Roger, I kind of like that one the best myself.

Thank you Martin!

The mushroom shot are excellent any one of those would be my choice.
Thanks Allan.

Distant: Beautiful light and nicely processed Bill.
Fragile: Terrific set and hard to decide which I like most. I’ve gone for the first in the end as I like the shape of the seedling.

I like them all but I think the 1st and 3rd are my favourites.

Thanks Pete, I thought that it looked the most delicate of the shots.

I like them all but I think the 1st and 3rd are my favourites.
Thanks Nicky.

Love all of those and the images are crisp and clear to me. I think my favourite is the second image as there is a hint of blue on the little mushrooms.
Thank you Adam, those little mushrooms were the ones that first caught my eye.

Week #20 - Robust

I thought that I'd have a walkabout downtown and look for a little bit of structural robustness...

I was lucky that we had some clouds in the morning to add interest and I liked how these first four images turned out.May 22-23-2.jpgMay 22-23-4.jpgMay 22-23-5.jpg

But ultimately there is this one building that I've shot a number of times that I thought takes the cake for a feeling of robustness. It isn't a particularly interesting building from an architectural standpoint. It's almost brutalist in design but I find that you cam make some really interesting, almost abstract images or shapes and lines if you look at it differently...

Bill you have definitely picked the right one to fit the theme, the perspective you have chosen gives interest and makes you look at the picture/angles

Great set of rubustness :)

This is my favourite shot I have seen for robust, love the angle and composition.

Fragile. Lovely set of images, particularly the last one for me.
Robust - I love this shot. Great pov.

I really like #2 Bill. The stone building set against the glass one works particularly well for me.
Another set of well seen images.

Your main image for the theme is bang on, but anyone of them would of been good enough as all great shots.
Thanks Dave, I appreciate the kind words.

Good set Bill.
Yes good angle to highlight the robustness.
Thank you Peter.

Thanks Pete, yeah that one stood out for me as well. I liked the juxtaposition between the old architecture and the new.

Week #21 - Near by

Last week was all about large an manmade so I thought that this week it might be good to take my macro lens out and concentrate on small and natural...So from a nearby park here are a few shots:

A lovely change of pace from last week Bill. I really like the point of focus, the colours and the processing in the last shot.
