Darkslinger's 52 Week Challenge - 2022

Nice shots as usual Bill - I have to admit I'm not familiar with the artists in the first two...

I always think of Culture Club and Karma Chameleon with the paddle steamer in the video.

But a nice set Bill, as always

Pete

Lovely shots Bill, and I love the red paddle. I wouldn't have guessed the song which I should have, as it is one I have played in a band :ROFLMAO: I associate it with Creedence Clearwater Revival rather than Tina, so I have now looked up her version :)

Good choice Bill.
Tina is one talented lady,
She certainly is. We were lucky enough to see her in concert many years ago.

Thank Simon, understandable, not the most famous artists.

Yes, good choice
Thank you Alan.

LOL, I haven't thought of the video for a long time.

Nice shots an can’t decide which one I prefer, one or three.
Thanks Keith, I actually had another version of #1 that I considered but ended up going with that one instead.

Thanks Bebop, I first heard it as the CCR version but I much prefer the Tina version. Way more funky and dynamic.

Week #40 - Looking Down

Toddling around the downtown core again...

A few literal interpretations of me looking down:

And then there were a couple of random pedestrians looking down. One using his cell phone to first take an image of the pigeons and then of something at his feet:

And then this one, with the young lady standing in the light and looking at her cell phone:

LOL, just noticed the billboard in the background... :D

Super set - and you chose the right one :)

Nice set as always Bill. Not sure what the 3rd one is?
I quite like the one of the man bending down, and the first one hits the spot nicely too.

lots of good ideas Bill.
All fit the theme.
A look down warning too!
Yeah, too funny! I might have shifted to my left if I had noticed it at the time.

I think I may have gone with #1.
#5 has interesting light, especially the backlit hair, but the Toilet sign in the background is a bit too distracting for me.
Yup, totally agree, once you notice it, it's hard to unsee...

Super set - and you chose the right one :)
Thanks Dave.

I almost chose #3 as my posted pic because I liked the simplicity of it. It's the top of a metal stanchion.

I was just a little late getting my shot off for the the man. When he was taking pics of the pigeons it made for a much better scene.

Depict a song... Nice simple shot but I would never have got the song!
Looking down. I rather like #1

Fantastic selection Bill. I'd have struggled to choosers they all fit the bill. I really like the red against the greys in the first shot and it's such an unusual perspective - I'm not sure how you got it :)

Maybe your chosen subject was on the phone to her doctor after reading the billboard and a visit to that toilet?:ROFLMAO:

Week #41 - Rustic

Not sure if this really fits the bill or not, but as close as I could find in Phoenix. I was there for a conference and couldn't get too much time to walk around with my camera. This is, what I think of as, a rustic lamp post. Situated in Heritage Square which contains a number of old buildings that have been preserved and restored. I liked the lamppost and figure it was probably originally lit by a gas flame. I've included a shot of a traditional shot of it along with the multi-exposure result that I came up with (11 images blended in Photoshop).

Traditional:

Artsy :D

That lampost looks fantastic.
I really must get around to trying out that rotating subject method.

Well it looks rustic to me Bill. I do love your arty shots.
Thanks Bebop, they're fun to do and I'm often surprised by what I end up with. Kind of like a kid on Christmas opening his presents... :D

Thanks Donal, let me know when you do and I'll give you all the pointers that I can.

Nice creative shot. Works for me.
Thanks Helen.

Rustic is a cracking image, beautifully done and love it.
Thanks for the kind words Dave.

The blended photo is a lovely image Bill, and I much prefer it to the basic image.
Thank you Simon, much appreciated.

Week #42 - Precision

I was pretty stuck on this one and running out of time. I took this shot of a spring thinking that it takes some precision engineering to get them exactly the same with the right tolerances, but I wasn't happy with the final result:

Then I realized that I was wearing something that had to be created with very specific optical precision:

Pleased you could see the camera to take the shot!
Good idea - not sure how it was lit?

Thanks Peter, they were spare pair... :D

Just on top of my desk, lit by a free-standing lamp. Nothing special.

Rustic. Really like this shot, and the effect. I recently came across the name Pep Ventosa and fancied giving this a go after seeing some of the results he has got. Nicely done :)

Rustic, what an interesting photo bill, much better than the single shot.

Precision, I thought of that one 2, but you beat me to it. simple does the trick.

Pete

Thanks Nick, let me know when you're going to try it and I'll give you whatever pointers I've got.

Thanks Pete.

The colouring makes for a really interesting shot.
Thank you Helen.

Week #43 - Vehicle

Thought that I'd do a bit of a shoehorn this week with vehicle in the sense of a object used to deliver or collect something. In this case vehicles used by plants:

A Solar Collection Vehicle

A Pollen Production/Distribution Vehicle

A Growth Potential Vehicle

Nicely outa the box Bill :)

Nice one. A perfectly valid stretch. Great colours and a lovely sense of decay in the leaves. I'm a sucker for a pinecone shot though, nice detail and use of DOF.

Very well taken pine cone and a different idea for the theme.
I like your lateral thinking.
