Darkslinger's 52 for 25

All good, hard to choose a favourite really but I think the couple on the bench and the freighters stand out for me.
Thanks Allan.

Great set! The rotating sign shot is very strong.
Thanks Paul, it was kind of a last minute shot but I like how it turned out.

Nice set but the chosen pic is a bit special. Did you show them?
Thanks Dave, yeah, I showed it to them and I've sent them a copy. They were very happy with it.

Great set Bill, love the reflections on the freighter shot and the couple shot has got to be the pick of the set.
Thanks Keith.

Love the last three Bill!
Thank you Simon.

A beautiful set of night shots you've captured there, Bill. I think you've picked the best one, with the seated couple just adding interest to the shot.
Thanks Stan, I'm really happy with the "couples" shot considering that it was an on-the-fly shot.

I would definitely have picked the freighter, love the palette of colours and a great reflection.

Very strong set. I think my favourite is 'under the quay bus loop'

But I'd be happy with any.
Thanks Kell, that was a quick shot in my way to the SeaBus, the lights just caught my eye.

Week 42 Autumn Colours

I was already out and about when the challenge was posted. I thought that some of the mushrooms that I had been shooting would be appropriate.

Lovely set Bill and you chose the best one!

Lovely set Bill
Getting the background right really adds to the shot, did you light these with flash?

Lovely night photography & autumn colours - a great set for both, and agree you've chosen the right pics for each! I do also like the colours of the 2nd last, but think the red background of your chosen pic makes it work really well

Thanks Dave!

Great set, and an original thought for the theme
Thank you Paul!

I like all those Bill, but your chosen one is fab.
Appreciate the kind words, thanks Simon!

Thanks Keith, I don't use any flash, I do have a cheap (very cheap) little light panel sometimes if the scene is really dark.

What a great set !
Thanks Alan!

Lovely set. I'd be very happy with these.
Thanks Kell, I think that they're, for the most part, a little soft, but I kind of like them that way.

Thanks Megan, yes, I almost used the 2nd to last one as my chosen shot.

That's a great set of fungus shots all worthy of entry.

Week 43 Circles

I decided to just wander around near my home to see what I could find...

All of those work for me Bill, the last is my favorite but I can see why you chose the other, any would have worked!

Good set.

Weirdly I did a similar thing a couple of weeks ago looking for circles (before the theme) and I think it’s an interesting way to make you look out for more unusual images.

Pick for me is the danger one, but am intrigued as to what your chosen shot was for.

That danger circle is a bit dramatic isn’t it, all well spotted.
Thanks Allan, I think that it was one of the first ones that I saw on my walk.

Thats quite a selection. All work well.
Thanks David.

What a great set!
LOL, thank you Paul. It's pretty amazing what you find when out for a walk with a specific theme in mind. Not my usual method of shooting.

Thanks Wayne.

Good set Bill, your chosen shot is unusual
Thanks Keith, there were a couple of others along this fence but I liked the positive message of this one.

Good selection Bill. I like the pebble circle.
Thanks Simon, this is part of series of pebble art set in the pavers of our local park.

Great set, particularly liked the danger sign
Thanks Alan. It's funny that I see the sign, and similar ones all the time, but have never really thought about the graphics of it and how striking they are.

Good set.

Thanks Kell, yes I agree. My usual photo walk is way less structured with shots of just random things that catch my eye.

The chosen shot was from a fabric cover draped over a chainlink fence outside a new highrise construction site. I think that the idea was to attract potential buyers by portraying positive messages on what living in the condos would be like...if that makes sense. here is an uncropped shot of the image with a second symbol that I think was meant to convey that the suites would be bright and sunlit. I liked how the fabric was porous and let light come through:

Week 44 Old vs. New plus Tech

I knew exactly what I wanted to capture with this theme. The old Pattullo Bridge near my home is being replaced by a new, wider bridge. The bridge was built in 1937 and connects Surrey to New Westminster across the Fraser River. It was only meant to have a life-span of 50 years.

I went out and shot all of the images in HDR using the in-camera function but combining the images in LR. Not my best images but a fun walkabout nonetheless.

This is the old bridge on the left and the new (yet to be named) bridge on the right. The deck has now been completed with a projected opening of Christmas of this year.

Week 44 - Old vs New 1.JPG

Shot from the park below the old bridge. You can get an idea of the relative sizes of the two constructs.

Another shot of the underside of the old bridge with the new bridge on the right

Just added for fun :D
Week 44 - Old vs New 4.JPG

There is also a train bridge that runs between the two bridges. So, old train bridge next to new construction

Under the old bridge with new-ish graffiti...

That’s a great shot. Back story makes me wonder what the lifespan of the new bridge is.
Thanks Alan, yeah, great question...Google AI gives a projected life span of 100 years.

Good shot of the bridges, I kind of like the third shot but I suppose for the theme I would say you made the right choice.

Thanks Allan, to be honest I think that the fourth shot is my favourite, but you're right, needs must and I think that the one I posted in the main thread is more suited for the theme.

Nice record of the two bridges Bill. Will the old bridge be removed?

Thanks Dave, yes, I believe that the plan is to dismantle the old bridge. I am hoping that the city will hold a "going away" party on the bridgedeck though.

Nice shots Bill, think a back story adds so much to shots (y)
Thanks Keith, I've done a little more research and it turns out that a "going away" party has been planned and approved. I expect that it will take place sometime early in the new year.

Week 45 Snapper Week

I finally had some time today so I went downtown in the rain. There is a photographer that I like who is known for her ICM shots, Olga Karlovac. I first learned about her via this YouTube post from Imatative Photography: LINK .

So I decided to do a walkabout and try to emulate her technique. I know that it won't be to everyone's taste but I kind of like some of the results that I got.

Great pics… i think it works well and the reflections caused by the wet weather add to it.
