Darkslinger's 52 for 25

Week 35 Snapper's

Went downtown and was lucky enough to have this flock of pigeons circle the harbour beside the convention centre
Week 35 - Snappers 5.JPG

A hot, very sunny day in downtown Langley. They had installed these umbrellas over the recently renovated plaza. The shadows really caught my eye:
Week 35 - Snappers 4.JPG

Went to the New Westminster Quay to meet up with my son and his girlfriend. This barred door prevents unauthorized access to the pier where the tugboats are moored. I've always liked shooting razor wire. I find it stark and foreboding.
Week 35 - Snappers 3.JPG

Today I took my dog to a nearby beach that allows dogs to be let off-leash. There are always herons around at low tide:

Great set of very different photos. I agree with your choice of the umbrella shot very different.

A great set, and really like the low viewpoint of your chosen shot.

Good set Bill especially the umbrella shot, nice framing

Love the heron shot and its a good use of negative space
To be honest not a bad shot in there.

Thanks David.
No2 :)

No1 is one of the Fritilleries :)
Gotcha. I don't know bugs from bags... :D

Thanks Keith, it kind of made itself without much help from me

Thank you Allan
Lovely set Bill!
Thanks, Simon.

Week 36 Hands

The hand of the soldier from the Angel of Victory statue. If you're interested you can read about it HERE

Week 36 - Hands 1.JPG

And right nearby is the crossing warning sign. I've shot this a number of times because I like the colours:

Week 36 - Hands 2.JPG

I always think that dolls and doll parts are a little creepy (along with clowns) and I saw these in a store window. I figured a little creative post-processing would enhance the creep factor:

Week 36 - Hands 3.JPG

I had to include the hands of the Gastown steam clock:
Week 36 - Hands 4.JPG

There were a few posters pasted to poles around the area but I liked this version the best:

Week 36 - Hands 5.JPG

And from a very old looking book in a used bookstore window, I liked her hand curling around the paper;

An interesting set. You are quite right in your observation that dolls (and clowns) are often creepy. For that reason I would have preferred you any of the others!

The fluff heightens the creep factor - it's almost a hairy hand. Urgh!

A nice set, all of those would work

A nice set of hands there :)

Good set but the scary dolls are right up my street

LOL, you made me laugh there...

I didn't even notice the dust on the dolls until I processed the image...and then it was just too late...I was compelled to post them...:wideyed:

I really like this, could easily be a frame out of Poltergeist.

Good set Bill, think the angel shot was my favourite. Feel the same about dolls/clowns, steam clocks is a new one for me and it gives a puff of steam on the hour

Thanks Keith, it's more than just a puff of steam. The clock has steam whistles that the steam activates on each quarter-hour. It's my understanding the the Gastown Steam Clock is one of the most photographed urban landmark in North America.

So, once again I've been too lazy to get my images uploaded in time. All were shot in the correct week but just not uploaded...

Week 37

A guy trying to bring a little joy...
Week 37 - Emotion 1.JPG

And a little sadness
Week 37 - Emotion 2.JPG

I thought that this little sticker was a face with a tear in it's eye, but now I think that the face is singing?

Week 38 Favourite Place

I don't really have one favourite place but I have to say that one of my favourite places is a garden, any garden

Week 39 Eye

I wasn't feeling too inspired by the theme this week, so only one image. I always think that the knots in the trees look like eyes

Good set Bill, especially like the last garden shot and the balloon helmet is great:)

and welcome back :)

Well spotted !
Thanks Alan

The balloon guy was funny, he was riding around the market on a unicycle but I didn't have my camera out in time to catch it.
Great spot for the eye shot Bill!
Thanks Simon
I think I prefer your shot two for favourite place, but the eye is very well spotted.
Yeah, I think that the second shot it probably the better of the two but I chose the one I did because I thought that it gave a better overall idea of a garden.

Week 40 Heavy

The cars on the Skytrain are pretty heavy. According to AI the four models of Skytrain car weigh the folloiwing:
  • Mark I: 15 tonnes
  • Mark II: 21.5 tonnes
  • Mark III: 21.3 tonnes
  • Mark V: 21.3 tonnes
This is a multi-exposure shot of the Skytrain entering the station at Terminal:

This is what the interior of one of the cars looks like (I don't know which model it is):

Like your multi exposure shots, especially the figures on the RHS

Week 41 Night Shots

I decided to go across the harbour to North Vancouver with the thought that I'd take some shots of Vancouver proper.

A little multi-exposure of the Lonsdale Quay rotating sign

The quay from the platform below the sign:

And at deck level:

Under the quay bus loop:

One of the freighters in the harbour:
Week 41 - Night Photos 2.JPG

I ran into a lovely couple visiting from Germany and saw them sitting admiring the view as I was walking back to the Seabus:

All good, hard to choose a favourite really but I think the couple on the bench and the freighters stand out for me.

Nice set but the chosen pic is a bit special. Did you show them?

Great set Bill, love the reflections on the freighter shot and the couple shot has got to be the pick of the set.
