Week #17 Stairs

Lots of stairs to find downtown.

#1 - Some moving stairs leading up to the Skytrain platform
Week 17 - Stairs 1.JPG

#2 - A little bit of water on the ground under Robson Square made for interesting reflections of the stairs leading up to the street
Week 17 - Stairs 2.JPG

#3 - The stairs outside the Art Gallery gave me the opportunity to try a technique used by one of the speakers the presented for our local camera club. The technique was to use a 2 or 3 second exposure and pan a subject that was moving across your field of view. The idea was not to keep the subject sharp but rather to have a move dreamy or abstract look.
Week 17 - Stairs 3.JPG

#4 - Another photographer shooting his model on the Art Gallery steps on the other side of the building. I liked the pops of red.
Week 17 - Stairs 4.JPG

#5 - A random guy enjoying the sunny weather (it was hot).
Week 17 - Stairs 5.JPG

#6 - A multiple exposure of someone going down the moving stair at a different Skytrain station (5 images blended in PS).

I really like the light you’ve captured with stairs #1 and the arty feel of the multiple exposure in #6.

Another strong set! I'm glad I didn't have to make the choice.

Yep - a lovely varied set.

I came to say I really like your chosen image (and I still do) but I also am a big fan a taking photos of people taking photos and agree the pop of red really works. I also like the dude chilling out.

Strong set.

Nice set Bill. All good, I like your chosen shot and the person at the top makes the image

I do like the last one, it really works with that style, a good set.

Another strong set of pictures from you again, really nice to multiple shots of the same subject.

Thanks Simon, it was hard choosing between the two.
Good set Bill, shots #1 and 6 for me as well
Thanks Keith!

LOL, just had to flip a coin...all good!

Thank you Dave.

Thanks Kell, I was lucky to come across the couple. I took a few of them but I think that this was the best one.
Nice set Bill. All good, I like your chosen shot and the person at the top makes the image
Thanks Simon, without the person I don't think that I would have chosen this shot.
Lovely set of stair photos, I like the viewpoint of your main post image and the multiple exposures of the last.
Thank you Stan.

Thanks Allan, yeah, I was happy with how that one turned out.

Great set for stairs Bill, all strong but loving you last ME shot, very cool.
Thanks Ryan, kind of a last minute shot. I had to make an unplanned stop on the way home and the opportunity just kind of fell into my lap...

A terrific set Bill of which I like the one you've chosen the best. The colours work nicely as do the refections of the steps to the side.

Week #18 Geometric & Tech

Went for an evening stroll downtown. Spent a lot of time looking up at the buildings, I had to remember to keep looking everywhere :D

#1 some rectangles to peer through
Week 18 - Geometric 1.JPG

#2
I was intent on capturing the shapes of the pavers but, truth be told, what I really liked the coloured lens flare
Week 18 - Geometric 2.JPG

#3
I liked the small geometric shapes on this panel and the reflected light
Week 18 - Geometric 3.JPG

#4
There were some images I grabbed by looking up, like this one
Week 18 - Geometric 4.JPG

#5
and this one
Week 18 - Geometric 5.JPG

#6
This multii-cross crosswalk on Granville street is new and I liked the triangles that had been painted on the street (this is a new crop that I've been playing with)
Week 18 - Geometric 6.JPG

#7
And on the post by the crosswalk is this explanatory sign. It's actually bright yellow, but I think that the b&w makes it pop more.

A good set I thought this theme would be your kind of thing

Super set - like them all :)

Great set, looks like the lady on the crossing is just standing there
Was the lens flare with lens hood removed?

Excellent set as usual Bill. I like the crosswalk shot especially

A lot going on in your chosen shot Bill and it tells the story really well.

Great set, with #4 being my pick of the bunch. Stunning colours.
Thanks Bob, being downtown during golden hour helped.

A good set I thought this theme would be your kind of thing
LOL, too true Allan...

Super set - like them all :)
Thanks Dave!

A great set of images.
Thank you Paul!

I think that she saw me taking a picture of the sign and thought that I was taking a picture of her...

Not much of lens hood really, just a cheap one like this:

Thanks Pete, I tried to get something that had a little context in it. It would have been really cool to get someone walking just like the little stick figure in the sign :D

Week #19 Symmetry

As I often do, I went on a walkabout yesterday.

These are in a, not very nice, part of town. They were probably once windows but would have been prime targets for breakage. I was quite close to them using a 40mm equivalent so this is a three-shot panorama:

Week 19 - Symmetry 1.JPG

The columns at a nearby bank

Week 19 - Symmetry 2.JPG

This is part of an insurance building in Chinatown (and you can get marriage licences here as well...)

Week 19 - Symmetry 3.JPG

I liked the look of this old building and the guy riding his bike through the image

Week 19 - Symmetry 4.JPG

The sails at the convention and cruise ship centre

Week 19 - Symmetry 5.JPG

I took this on a whim but thought that it turned out pretty well. I got lucky with the positioning of the people walking towards me

Week 19 - Symmetry 6.JPG

Another good set, the building and the windows stand out for me

Nice set Bill, love the pandas in the window. I’m not seeing the symmetry in the last shot though, prob just me. :)

Lovely set Bill. Some crackers in there. I like the tall B&W building one.

Thanks Keith, fluffy pandas or inflatable pandas?
Your right the last shot might be a bit of a stretch, I was looking at the general shape of the cones and the colour...I really just like how the shot turned out with the placement of the people coming towards me...

Thanks Simon.
I do like hte chosen shot, but I think the pandas edge it for me.
Fluffy pandas or inflatable pandas?

Week #20 Light and Dark

Took a shot trip over to Crescent Beach (a small community about 20 minutes from where I live) to take a few long exposure shots.
It was a little cool and overcast. This is more what it looked like as a normal shot (I liked how the seagulls photobombed the shot):
Week 20 - Light and Dark 1.JPG

I think that I liked the composition of this one the best:

Here are a few runners up:

I really like your chosen shot. Perfect for the theme.

Really like #5 too.

The biggie inflatables for me :)
Think you chose the best shot, no seagulls and just a hint of colour in the sky

Your chosen shot was eye catching, made me want to click through. Best composition of them.
