Darkslinger's 52 for 25

Another good set, your urban photography is always excellent

Another lovely set Bill and hard to choose from. I do like the one you've picked best though.

Good set. I think you chose the right one for the theme. Number 4 is very good, great composition. It would be a splendid wall poster.
Thanks Bob, I've shot that particular composition a number of times over the years and it never disappoints.
A good set - any one of them would have worked perfectly.
Thanks Paul
All of them are really good but I really like your chosen shot. Very striking :)
Thanks you James.
All nice Bill. Chosen one the best of the bunch
Cheers Simon.
Your chosen shot is excellent.

At first thought 'Vertical' rather than horizontal, but I think it's better that you show something horizontal from a different angle.
Yeah, I had a similar thought but liked the idea of the intersection of horizontal and vertical.
Good set Bill, like you chosen shot.
Thanks Keith

I appreciate the kind works Allan.
A cracking bunch of images, that mono skytrain shot is really striking.
Yeah, I thought that it was strong but also thought it was maybe a little over-processed.

Thanks Pete.

Week #10 - Patterns

As usual, I went downtown for a walkabout. I started out looking for manmade patterns:

Right off transit I spotted these inserts in the sidewalk outside the station:

And then there were these bespoke adirondack chairs outside a Mexican restaurant:

But it was the sun shining on these cement benches that got me looking for patterns of light and shade:

I really liked how the colour worked with the shadows here:

This pattern on Robson street from the reflections of the building behind me were cool. The colour is pretty accurate:

I got to one of my favourite places to shoot, Robson Square. The sun was creating really great patterns on the sidewalk:

But is was this one that really grabbed me with the guy walking through carrying the red messenger bag:

A great set, and I would have chosen the same one. Cracking!

Great set, especially like the one you chose and the chairs - love the colours and contrast

Great set. Excellent timing on your chosen shot but the first one stands out for me.
Thanks Bob, I used a mask in LR to desaturate everything except the sidewalk medallion (just for fun...)

Yeah, I spotted these outside the restaurant and thought that they would be cool. I think that I could have played with the angles a bit more but there was a couple sitting right next to them having their meal and I thought that I might have been disturbing them. I'll go back on another day...maybe when it's raining...

Oooh now that last one is good! It's VERY good! It's excellent! Did I mention it's good?:clap::clap:

Lovely patterns there Bill.

All strong images

Great capture, love those shadows

Great set of pictures - couldn’t pick a favourite.
(For both horizontal and patterns)

You've got a good eye for patterns there, your chosen shot with the man walking past really makes the shot pop.

Great image. I think the inclusion of the guy elevates it from just observed patterns.
Thanks Kell, I probably took about twenty shots of various people walking by but this guy's red bag really made if for me.

Is that selective de-saturation?
If not, that's so odd getting the background to appear mono like that, but quite effective.
Thanks Tim. For this one I used one of my favourite LR presets to start: "Joshua Tree by Julieanne Kost". It desaturates some colours and cranks the shadows way up. Often I'll start with a preset like this, then play with some of the sliders until I get something I like. That's what I did for this one.

Good set Bill, agree with your chosen shot. The snail is a close runner and that’s a big bee :)

Lovely set again this week Bill. The man and his dog is my particular favourite.

Really excellent shots - #4 through the window takes it for me, great atmosphere.
Love your tram crossing sign shot, makes me a bit dizzy !!

And agree with your choice for horizontal choice - very strong image !!

Nice set Bill. The snail sneaks it for me.
I found that shell early on while walking the dog and carried it around and shot it in different spots. This one was one of the better images.
Lovely set again this week Bill. The man and his dog is my particular favourite.
Thank you Pete. I was lucky that he sat there just as I was walking by.

Thanks Ross, I appreciate the kind words.

Week #12 - Broken + Technique

A few shots from a couple of different locations.
The broken rim on this concrete garbage bin with the splash of colour below it caught my eye as I entered the park:

Week 12 - Broken 1.JPG

These are the broken remnants of a pier used by the old sawmill. I've shot them many times but liked how this long exposure turned out, even if it is a little overprocessed.
Week 12 - Broken 2.JPG

I went from shooting long exposures to shooting some macro shots. I like how this moss was growing on the remnants of the mill that have been used to strengthen the shoreline.
Week 12 - Broken 3.JPG

And lastly, a bit of green broken grass I spotted on the beach:
Week 12 - Broken 6.JPG

Excellent mono shot for 'Broken' Bill. Ticks all the boxes and the liittle danger sign adds so much!

Excellent set! Personally I don't find it at all overprocessed.

Lovely series Bill and I like the one you've picked. The broken glass shot appealed to me too.
