Darkslinger's 52 for 25

Number 3 for me good lines and the silhouette of the bird makes it

Spoiled for choice there Bill, all great shots

Week #7 - Through a Window

I took a little jaunt over to North Vancouver yesterday. This involved taking the Skytrain (LRT) to the very end and then transferring to the Seabus which took me over to Lonsdale Quay (a seaside public market). Lots to shot there, and always changing with the weather. I liked these six in particular:

#1 - I set up to take some ICM shots out the moving train and got this one. I kind of liked it for the simplicity and the abstract nature
Week 7 - Through the Window 1.JPG
#2 - when I pulled this one up on my computer, I laughed. To me it looks like some type of painting of a man on the station wall. Totally unexpected.
Week 7 - Through the Window 2.JPG
#3 - there is a restaurant near the quay that had windows looking into their storage room and they had these glasses stacked against it
Week 7 - Through the Window 3.JPG
#4 - this is looking into a large event space that they have nearby. They often have craft/maker fairs set up here on weekends. I liked the interplay of the columns, the windows across the way and the light. I also kind of like the distortion from the window I was shooting through
Week 7 - Through the Window 4.JPG
#5 - there is a toy store in the market and these toy cars were lined up in the window
Week 7 - Through the Window 5.JPG
#6 - back home in the city hall plaza the library has some interesting architectural features
Week 7 - Through the Window 6.JPG

Lovely set, particularly the event space shot!
Thanks Tom, yeah, I took a number of shots from both sides of the building. The interplay of light and shadow was really cool.

I like your chosen shot - very abstract but you can still see what it is/was. Nice set.

Your chosen shot is the one. although #6 put up a good case. But #1 has great interest.
Thanks Alan, I was too lazy to sit and wait for a better subject to walk past the windows of the library...
Another good set, any of them would be fitting for the theme
Thank you Allan
Very abstract.
I think I would have been tempted to go with the glasses that you've taken at the angle, as it feels like it has more, hmm drama isn't the right word, I'm not sure what is.
Yeah, I took a number of shots of the glasses and the colour versions were interesting. I might go back on a different day and see what I can get.
Your pictures tell a good story of your day out. The submitted picture ticks the box nicely!
Thanks Simon
A great series Bill and I like the abstract ICM shot you've picked.
Cheers Pete.

Week #8 - Street Signs & Symbols

A walk around a nearby town (Steveston) and my local neighbourhood gave me lots of subjects to shoot. Since street signs are so mundane I thought that I be a little creative in how I shot them and how I processed them in Adobe.
These three are all multiple exposures. Images of the same sign, shot at different angles and then combined in PS.

Week 8 - Street Signs & Symbols 3.JPG

These three are single images that I've taken the liberty of processing creatively in LR and Nik Effects

Like the edit on your chosen shot and the multiple exposures work well, especially the crossing sign

A great set of images. I tried a Pep Ventosa shot just yesterday - it didn't work as well as any of yours.

The big yellow arrow and the bike are the picks of the bunch for me, another strong set of pictures from yourself.

Thanks Keith, I did a couple of versions of the crossing sign. One with 5 exposures and this one with only two. I liked this one better.

LOL, the first time that I did one it wasn't very good but, like all things photography, the more I did it the better I got.

Thanks Allan, yeah, I liked the arrow. I did another one of the same thing that I also liked but a multi-exposure version.

Your chosen shot would've been my pick too. Very strong - like it.

I like the curved arrow on the curved lamp-post, really grabbed my attention
Thanks Alan, I almost went for that as my chosen shot. I thought that the POV worked well and when I converted it to B&W it popped for me, I just didn't like the tree branches on the right and was too lazy to try to clone them out...

Great pics for the week, I agree your chosen pic & the yellow arrow are my top picks, although I also like the ghostly bus!

LOL, that's the "Bus to Photo Obscurity"...

Great work!!! The City of Surrey shot is such a strong perspective, and I actually really like the scale of the last shot. But the multiple exposures are great!!

A great set Bill. My favourite has to be the one with the yellow arrow. I really like the PoV and the processing of it.

Week #9 - Horizontal

I went to a three different parks this week looking for inspiration.

Went to White Rock as a first stop to shoot the pier.
One as a static image
Week 9 - Horizontal 1.JPG

And one with ICM
Week 9 - Horizontal 2.JPG

Then over to Crescent Beach because the weather was so warm and calm. I always like to shoot the poles in the water with the towers in the distance.
Week 9 - Horizontal 3.JPG

And the pier there looked really good as well:
Week 9 - Horizontal 4.JPG

The next day, I went to a nearby off-leash park (actually two different ones that are really close together).
Tannery Park has a lot of cool horizontal drainage pipes with the New Westminster towers in the background:
Week 9 - Horizontal 6.JPG

And the entrance to Brownsville Bar Park goes right under our LRT (Skytrain):
Week 9 - Horizontal 8.JPG

Decided to go with this one, even though this is a some haloing around the edges, because I liked the idea of a horizontal surface held up by a vertical pillar.

Good set. I think you chose the right one for the theme. Number 4 is very good, great composition. It would be a splendid wall poster.

A good set - any one of them would have worked perfectly.

All of them are really good but I really like your chosen shot. Very striking :)
