Hi all,

I've been thinking of setting up my own home darkroom and was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good site from which to buy the requisite materials and equipment such as chemicals, trays, enlarger etc? I will be looking to start off doing by B&W prints.

I'm new to the film side of this, so would really appreciate a couple of good links or recommendations for sourcing the gear.

Thanks,

Tim

EBay is your friend here - but make sure you do your research, sometimes its difficult/expensive/impossible to replace things like lamps and such like and if anything is broken it can be difficult to get parts.

Otherwise :

http://www.silverprint.co.uk/

http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/

http://www.secondhanddarkroom.co.uk/

http://www.theimagingwarehouse.com/Home

http://www.ag-photographic.co.uk/index.asp

These aren't recommendations, I haven't used all of the above.

That's really helpful, thanks John

Local classifieds like Gumtree are also worth keeping an eye on.

My top tip: the little accessories, especially negative carriers, are almost impossible to find if they don't come with the enlarger - a cheap enlarger may turn out to be significantly more expensive after purchasing missing accessories! So a complete set is worth looking for.

I was looking for darkroom equipment too and my cousin suggested I put an advert up asking on Freecycle and got a whole darkroom set up for free - might be worth a try :)
