I have a pair of Ballroom/Latin American dancers coming over for a photoshoot next week. It's a bit scary  as it's a new thing for me so I was hoping for some tips so I'm more prepared.

Ideas I have at the moment... Plenty of movement in the poses (aerials, twirling skirt, etc) to add drama, some rear curtain flash perhaps to give some motion blur, a blast of the old smoke machine for effect...

Any other suggestions or ideas that would help?

Three days and no reply so forgive the bump. I have to do this on Monday, any ideas....? anyone.......? :)

i've got a similar thing to do at the end of the month so I would like some tips as well!

The only thing I can offer that might not be obvious (or maybe it is) is o get some shots from down low. Get on yer knees I mean and take some wide angle shots to get a different slant on the pictures.

Good idea, really useful input, thanks..... As long as her skirt isn't too short of course!

haha good point

This is no help but I shot a salsa party last year and the gallery is on my website. For your job sounds like you might need to set the mood with a dark, dancehall, style room.. not sure about the smoke, but the usual "disco" lights that suit the usual style of their music (google to find out about where that style takes place, wht kinda places etc). Then set the shutter somewhere low like 30 or less to capture the ambient light and some movement with the lights etc but use ttl flash to freeze the main subject.. the more lower shutter speeds should allow you to get some movement from them as they dance "fast"

I don't use rear curtain but there's no reason why you can't make it work :D

Not the same but similar ;) :
