dan_yorkshire's 52 - Part 2 (Week 41 - Distant - Page 2)

Moved house, finally got broadband back (after 3 weeks waiting for a connection).

Go on holiday this Sunday for a week but am determined to start catching up.

Will have a photo for each of the missing weeks soon.

Dan

Dan, sorry... I missed a couple...

Electric, good moody skies, lovely golden colour in the foreground... all round a good one, I like it.

Transform, it's good, I like what you've done here... The only thing as you pointed out is the DOF..

Congrats on the move, glad to see you back... even if only briefly :D... Have a good holiday

THE CATCHUP BEGINS!!!!!

Strange how times have moved on....

Taken with my panasonic tz5 on holiday in Turkey, thought the surface of the beach looked quite photogenic

Took me ages to come up for one for this theme. In the end I searched movie posters to re-create and found one that tested my new off camera flash but mostly my pp skills.

Hi everyone,

Had a mad few weeks, moved house eventually and did without internet access for a month with only my iphone to view the site.

The on holiday and other things in between that have limited my time with the camera.

In the past weeks have purchased a stand/brolly etc and am trying to get the hang of off camera flash. Not really had chance to look at anyone elses entries so bear with me as I comment and give feedback where I can.

This 52 will not get the better of me!!

Cheers

Dan

WOW Dan, what a way to catch up!

Mobile - clever idea and I like it a lot. Needs a little anti-clockwise rotation, but the point is cleverly made.

Surfaces - lovely scenic shot, not sure about the vignette though. Lose that and boost the saturation a bit IMHO.

Light - I like both of these but the black and white is class with the flare from the light peeking through the open slats in the blind.

Film - brilliant. You're lucky to have a good lady to help you with the your shots, but particularly one who doesn't mind you photographing her tummy. Or is it you? ;)

Rage - brilliant again. The idea, the composition, the lighting, the PP. All brilliant.

A great catch up

Agreed, dont know why I put it there to be honest but its been removed,

Cheers for your comments

Well done on the catchup! Mobile is a good idea but doesn't catch my eye especially. Surfaces is a nice holiday shot although there's a lot of haze in the top right.

Light - I like these, especially the second mono example

Film - A clever idea to redo an iconic poster and well executed. It would be further improved if it said 'Canon Beauty'. :coat:

My favourite of the lot is rage though. I love the lighting on this and the composition works well with the umbrella against the sky.

Phil

A great way to catchup Dan...

Mobile, very indicative of the times... nicely shot

Surfaces, I agree the beach is covered in surfaces... not so keen on the process, probably the vignette

Light, they both work, but of the two, I think the second mono image has more impact.

Film, a clever idea, I agree with Phil ;)...

Rage, brilliant, and I know where you're coming from with it too ;)

 Welcome back Dan. I hope that the move went well.

And what a catch up!!!!

Mobile : Simple, but makes a very strong statement. For my personal taste I would have liked a closer shot, focussing in on just the phonebox and the woman on her mobile. Maybe with the mobile phone more visible. Still works well as it is though.

Surfaces : Lovely scenic shot, but agree with Darren about the saturation. I'd love to see the mid-ground reds and the blue on that boat popping out a bit more.

Light : Both spot on for me. Such a simple idea but very effective.
If I had to choose the B&W has the edge with that bit of flare.

Film : Superb !!!! Love it.
Really well executed and a fantastic idea . . . just a shame about the Nikon bit as Phil and John said ;)

Rage : My favourite out of the set.
Lighting, composition, everything just comes together in this one. Really, really well done

Catch ups - first off well done seeing it through, sometimes other things get in the way, but its good to see you took the time ;)

MOBILE: good concept, would have referred a tighter crop on the subject matter, sorted the horizon and lost the heavy vignette.

SURFACES: nice simple shot - points mentioned before

LIGHT: I prefer the B&W version, nice angle - perhaps to make it more film noir stylie get her eyes into the light - i know its not nice for her but it will bring them to life.

FILM: as said, great concept to remake - but i too would have liked to have seen AmeriCANON Beauty instead, lol

RAGE: rocking it, great idea and I have been there many times, lol ;)

Cheers everyone for your comments. I will take a look through the last 2 or 3 weeks from each of you still doing this and comment on your entries.

Agree with the comments, had a spell where I was vignetting everything in sight and seem to have got out of that habit now...haha.

Like the AmeriCANON suggestion Dade, I would feel like bathing in bleach though if I had.

Was hoping you would all like the rage shot, I really enjoyed tinkering with the flash and ambient light to eventually get what I wanted.

People photography is eventually what I would like to get into so more and more entries will feature someone in them, usually my lovely patient wife!!

Cheers, Dan

Had lots of ideas to include to binocular thingies on Scarbrough coast but due to the amount of people knocking about I struggled with most of them. Spotted a speedboad coming into frame so very quickly snapped this.

Nice bright colours in this one- the yellow telescope and the blue sea and sky look good together. Shame the boat is blurred but, as you just snapped it quickly, your shutter speed might not have been fast enough. I am always doing that.

Cheers Sue. The boat being blurred was very much deliberate, I couldn't fail to get a fast shutterspeed yesterday with how bright it was... Haha.

I think the aperture choice has made the boat look further away, at least that was my intention.

I like the yellow against the blue and also the shadow of the subject on the wall. Boat does look distant !

Yellow against blue is always going to work well. Nice reactions to catch the boat in frame, but I would actually be more interested in seeing the binoculars on their own against the sea/sky. The lady looking through them is in the way :)

Just having a quick catch up Dan, Film is a ....beauty, you have done a great job getting a soft skin tone.
Rage is quirky and does reflect the frustration sometimes of getting it right off camera.

Distant, Great example of using thirds with the horizontals and almost the verticles. I like the shadow cast from the subject too.

It works for me Dan... Good strong colours and composition. Not sure exactly how distant the boat looks personally, but it fits the theme nicely.
