dan_yorkshire's 52 2010 (Week 26 - Beginnings (Pg 15)

Very clever and well exectued Dan

Chopped is awesome! Great idea and execution.

how cool is that - carrot's revenge!

Thankyou

Week 1 Much prefer the second version, the curved theme is more obvious.

Week 2 The first one for me, the different coloured ribbons really stand out.

Week 3 Lots of time and effort make an original idea stand out. 10/10

Cheers for your feedback, many thanks

Agree with the rest - very creative! :)

Clever, inventive and very funny Dan.
The PP on the knife is absolutely seamless and congratulations on your first use of off camera flash - you definitely got something right with it.

There's definitely something of the Pepperami advert about it

Thankyou Sarah, really glad I managed to PP the photo as I had envisaged in my head.

Ha! That's a great idea, very imaginative.

Much appretiated

Glad you like :thumbs::thumbs:

Originally thought this theme would be easy but I found it hard to take a photo that has a focus point and any meaning.

Too many of the shots I tried of 'people walking down a street' looked too much like a generic tourist snap.

Was going to travel accross to York and photograph 'The Shambles' but I visited my local towns take on the shambles to try get it when empty (something very difficult to acheive in York)

The lighting on the street was very harsh so found it hard taking a long exposure without blowing out the lights but I think I just about managed it.

C&C Welcome, time to see what others have entered.

Cheers,

you have definitely captured the street theme
and it's a long way from "just a tourist snap"
it's a tad dark on my monitor, but that may be deliberate for the subject matter

Good interpretation of the theme and sounds like you've learned a bit from it too.

Don't mind it slightly dark as it gives it a more gritty feel

ps, change your thread title to Street as I nearly didn't look at this ;)

Cheers for your quick response.

Great that it has moved away from the tourist snap, exactly the effect I was after.

Have deliberately set it slightly dark, any lighter and I think the glare from the lights was a bit overkill.

Dan

Thanks. Hopefully more will be in the same boat as you in terms of the dark gritty feel.

Cheers for the thread title reminder.... done!!

Dan

Works for me, maybe even like it a little bit darker.

Nice and atmospheric, Dan. Love the composition.

very nice mate.

Really captured the atmosphere nicely. As you say, any lighter may have blown the highlights.

The first thought into my head when the theme was announced was the Shambles in York but it's a bit far from Stoke On Trent

 from me for your image. B&W suits this scene, I like the darker slightly "gritty" feel to the image.

Good use of B&W maybe a lone figure could have worked. Stick it on timer and you could have been that ghostly figure.

Shambles at York is easy if you get there early enough ;)

Nice lighting and atmosphere - I think it would be even better with a figure in it, though. However I know that it's difficult to get the figure you want in the place you want....

Glad you like it, any darker and I think some monitors would struggle so left it as it is

I like that - very atmospheric

Cheers

Nice and atmospheric, Dan. Love the composition.

Thanks mate, just what I was after and always good to please with the composition which is the main thing I look for.

Cheers. Thought there would be another entry of the Shambles but of the few threads I've seen so far I've not spotted one.

Thanks, like your one of the shambles, gonna try an capture it in York later this year when the sunrises earlier and it'll be quiet when light!! :)

Agree with the lone figure, maybe have to try that later too.

Week4: Dan, love the composition and contrast in that shot between the light walls, and the dark pavement and sky.

 I'm pleased with the contrast I've acheived.

Mean, moody, spot on :D

Cheers

Cheers, I took some in the day too and tried to capture an olf person walking with a stick etc but they were all just a bit too busy so settled for this.

Dan

i like it Dan, nicely done.

Very nice Dan . . . the dark, moody feel is definitely coming through.
I'm not sure if it needs a bit of a straighten, or if it's just the perspective that you were shooting from. I kind of like the way that the buildings seem to be leaning in though. It adds to the atmosphere.

Week 5 - Speed

Sorry eveyone, had to cop out and shoot the obvious light streaks

I went to a couple of horse gallops in the hope of shooting some starting stalls but there wasnt any I could find.

I am still pleased with this pic anyway so thought I would post it.

I'd be pleased with that too!
It might be the obvious choice for the week, but that doesn't take anything away from it being a very good shot.

Lovely clean crisp light trails. A nice bit of scenery to frame it and give it some interest and a really beautiful sky.
The composition is spot on with that curve leading you through the shot and I love the little red glow of the cats' eyes on the LHS.

That's a great light trail shot, some nice detail in the sky and some clean trails.

cheers Sarah, the photo was taken with hardly any light left in the sky but the long exposure brought it out so was really pleased with it.

Waited ages to get a situation with only one car going in each direction as knew that would make the best image.

Thanks mate, glad you like it

Hi Dan,

Lovely shot mate. I did initially think of giving this a go for my week 5 but i knew it'd be a popular theme that others would do better. You proved me right. Good job :)

Nice shot Dan. It could actually work for the curved, street and speed theme.

Cheers, Rob

A good effort there Dan. Nice and sharp.

Cheers, got lucky with only two cars and not changing lanes which has helped retain the sharpness.

Haha, it really isn't too hard to get this shot. The secret is finding a good venue and then having a lot of patience in getting the shot you want.

This was just before I got my remote for the shutter release so had to use shutter priority and get lucky with the car speeds.

Nice shot Dan. It could actually work for the curved, street and speed theme.

Cheers, Rob

Never thought about that, predicting the future could've saved me hours of work

Cheers

I am not a fan of light trail but I actually like these. Nice curve too.

Thanks, was hoping the curve and composition would win a few of the sceptical 'light trail' fans over.

Dan

Awesome stuff, nicely composed, wonderfully sharp and really nice contrast too.

Spot on mate.

A lovely crisp light trails shot Dan

Nice clean light trails and the sky adds interest.

Cheers, didnt realise how much the sky had complemented the light trails till it got mentioned by a few people

Wow. First visit to yet another 52 thread and I find a stunning collection of images. The highlights have to be the dartboard, chopped and speed.

I think you have a great eye for composition.

Will try and keep on top of this thread a bit more...

Ian.

I wish the dogs in our area stopped leaving us a PRESENT on the back lane.

Struggled with something for this theme so ended up shooting one for a bit of a laugh.

Dan

P.S It is plastic...

Great light trails for Speed Dan. Want to get out and do this myself but I'm a lazy b****r sometimes :D

Nice fun shot for present!

Nice doggy's eye view of the situation there. I'm sure it's the only poop we'll see this week (literal kind that is ;)).

Speed is great - the light trails are really bold and crisp, it works well :)

Present - a different take on the theme, well done for thinking of something a little less obvious!
