dan_yorkshire's 52 2010 (Week 26 - Beginnings (Pg 15)

Hi Dan
I really like this one - I find it a very peaceful shot, and the colour version gets my vote.
Cheers
Kristy

Ed's crop made a world of difference - dare I say, he hit the BULLSEYE ;)

As for week2 - I prefer the colour to be honest, it has a warmer feel to it.

Cheers for your comments, yeah agree with you about the crop of the first. Amazing how more pleasing on the eye can owe so much to a different crop.

Colour for me, love the page ribbons.
Very calming shot - I like :)

Cheers Rob, think I'm starting to prefer the colour pic now, just for the ribbons.

Many thanks Kirsty, it does feel quite peaceful, although was very eerie when I was taking it....lol.

nice effort, i prefer number one as the colours give the image more definition, plus they are very subdue which lends itself well imo

Cheers Huss, I had a play with the flash stength to get the pic not too over-exposed and am pleased with the colours.

colour version for me also.. muted tones in the background dont detract your eye from the book in the foreground.. like the ribbon colours showing too..

I really like this Dan.
Nice to see another interpretation rather than illustrating a poem, and I love the personal story behind it.

For me, the colour shot definitely works better. It's such a shame to lose those coloured ribbons with a mono conversion.
I also really like the little daubs of colour from the flower arrangements in the church. They're not enough to distract you, but they're clear enough that you can identify what they are while in the B&W version they just appear as blobs of lightness.

Colour one for me, the ribbons really stand out and make sure your focus is on the right area of the photo.

Another vote for the colour one Dan. I really like that

Cheers for your reply Sarah, agree that its a shame to lose the coloured ribbons in the mono, we flirting with a mono with those in colour but thought it would look strange.

Many thanks

Glad you like, seems colour has won the vote

Good shot, I think I prefer the colour one

As above

Was aiming for the muted tones in the background, glad I managed it.

Many thanks to all that have commented

Hi Dan, I prefer the colour version too, it has nice warm tones to it that are lost with the conversion I think :)

REVENGE OF THE CARROT!

Had a nightmare deciding what to take for this theme, as I suppose most will have done.

I have used the obvious props but tried to do something a bit different.

Took me quite a while to get the lighting as I wanted, but once I was happy, I took two pictures, one with the knife on the chopping board and one without.

I then layered the two pics, and erased parts of the knife to expose the bare chopping board beneath. A quick photo of another knife was the then added to the carrot.

C&C Welcome, as always.

That's really creative and a fatastic take on the theme. I love it.

love it! :D Darn it - why didn't I think of that???

That is really very good - cracking idea and very well executed. Excellent inventiveness.

Has an 'advert' look about it - I keep trying to work out what the slogan should be.

Great idea, love the shot

Many thanks, glad you like it.

Superb, very creative

Cheers, hopefully the rest of the themes won't require such brainwork in the creative department.

thats excellent!.. great idea :D

Thanks

Was pleased with the idea when it came into my head, just wasn't sure if I would be able to execute it as I wanted as was first real time using the flash off camera for efftect!

love it! :D Darn it - why didn't I think of that???

Haha, I thought that when seeing others attempts before mine but luckilly I had a brainwave.... Hope you get one too... Thanks

Cheers Ian, strange you should mention an advert as before I shot it I watched the peperami advert as I knew it was a similar feel I was after.

Really glad you like it.

Cheers again everyone,

Dan

Great interpretation of the theme, I think this is my fave of the images I've looked at, especially because it's an image with the obvious props but nobody else thought to do it (I know I definitely didn't!)

Excellent stuff !!

So glad I didn't attempt this as I'd have been put to shame. Cleverly executed and the shaow of the carrot it a touch of genius.

Well done! A clever idea and you have brought it off really well!

Haha, that's a great photo, the idea is pure genius and it has turned out brilliantly.

Love the chopped - I actually LOL'd ;) The shadow on the carrot is very horror film - Brilliant

Cheers for all of your words folks.

I am really chuffed with how well it worked out and with the positive feedback I have been getting.

I'm especially pleased as its my first real time with off camera flash and it has gone a long way to helping my learn the basics.

I orinally planned to carve a carrot into the shape of a knife and twist the theme that way but something made me do this instread and I'm so glad I did.

Thanks again,

Dan

how cool is that - carrot's revenge!

Week 1 Much prefer the second version, the curved theme is more obvious.

Week 2 The first one for me, the different coloured ribbons really stand out.

Week 3 Lots of time and effort make an original idea stand out. 10/10
