I've been told I probably have dyslexia (the lady said without doing the actual test it's not dead cert, but from what I told her it probably is). Anyway I read words that aren't there and/or replace them with others. I think my brain makes an assumption but my brain isn't always right lol. I have real problems reading out loud and it puts me off reading to the kids, especially when my 6 year old corrects me. That's how I found out I probably am dyslexic, reading to my eldest. This was about three years ago and I'm just shy of 36 now. I also have trouble with spelling, I only got this right because of Firefox's spell checker, and I also completely forget what I'm talking about or the next word (i call it loosing my words) mid sentence.

If it keeps happening might be worth finding out. Either that or lay off the wine ;)

God knows what is going on lately but twice in a matter of days i have totally miss read what is actually being typed...
You've lost the plot and finally admitted to it.
Its easy, you say "hi my name is T and I'm an alcoholic sorry thats next weeks class :D

I've never had an issue with spelling or reading etc, i am a huge book worm and my spelling 98% is pretty good too so i don't really know why i am doing it now lol... sadly i think Simon suggestion of old age is creeping up, although at 41 i am loathe to entertain it

Can you imagine what would happen if i went in to that thread in lighting and stuff, you know important serious type thread, didn't read it properly and asked why he was young and confused lol

I am also aware your mind is strange too ;)

People do that all the time :D

Jsut yuo and me agnaist the wrold then :D

That doesn't surprise me. I'll tell you about a little experiment I did with a group of 12 diagnosed dyslexics.

I asked them to read the first page of a short story, taking as much time as they wanted.

The usual, slightly pained process played out.

I then asked them what it was about.

Because their focus had been on reading the words, every word, they had no idea.

I then gave them a different story and told them they had 1 minute to read it. They tried and failed, but realised how quickly they had to read in order to accomplish the task.

Yet another short story - 1 minute again. Most got to the end of the page.

I asked them what it was about and, to their immense surprise, they knew.

Not sure what, if anything it proves, but I feel personally that they were worrying too much about reading every word.

I can't tkae teh credit for taht it was rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, :)
However I agree, its pretty amazing, but it would aslo seem that its easier to read if the fisrt and last letters are in the correct order. :)

Yep i thought they were a main factor, it is interesting though

Yeah, I've been aware of it for some years.

It also seems to work on whole text level. This mostly applies to academic works such as serious history works. Read the first and last paragraph of a chapter to decide if that chapter is useful for what you need to know.

"Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em, tell 'em, tell 'em what you've told 'em."

Wish I could remember where that comes from.

That makes sense. I read all he words aloud in my head, thats to say I can hear my voice saying each word. I thought this was normal but people I have spoken to say they dont do this. As I am typing this I can hear my voice saying the words in my head.

I think thats one reason it takes so long to read stuff. I've been on the same book on my kindle, The Name Of The Wind, for over a year now. This is party because I get put off picking it up cos it takes so long...catch 22.

Curious, I've never heard that before, but I'll be sure to try it out,
next time I get "involved" it that type of literature :)

Just try, as an experiment, scanning through it really fast and see what happens.

I'm betting you'll find a speed that works for you.

I wouldn't class my self as lysdexic ( :D )
but I do that too, sometimes, I may even speak the words to myself too.
(or is it just the voices telling me what to type? :D )

My money's on the voices

Never mind. I clicked on the next thread "What tablets are good" and was very disappointed to find that it was about some computer stuff...

:LOL: Well that was a bit boring then huh;)

At 51 (or 2 since my life got restarted!), I'm completely fnurkled!!!

My problem these days is concentration. I'm fine with old, familiar tasks but get easily distracted. Can't remember a shopping list to save my life - I can remember to get a pint of milk by the simple expedient of going straight to the mil fridge and picking one up but ask me to get a pint of milk, a loaf of bread and a yoghurt and the chances are that I'll spot something along the way and end up with a pint of milk, a yoghurt and some cheese... Needless to say, we have a lot of pads of paper dotted around so we can jot stuff down to allow a proper list to be made before I'm sent off to the shops!

WRT the OP, I often misread Yongnuo as Youngnow or similar (and also thought of pills when I first saw the tablet thread title!)

Don't worry about it, you're not alone. My wife gave up asking me to get anything that matters because she'd learned that I get distracted easily. I have memories of going out to get new cartridges for her printer and coming back with a laser printer, a bottle of scotch, biltong, some books and a box of 9mm ammunition. She wasn't terribly impressed when I suggested that I did buy 'cartridges' anyway!

You got cartridges and a printer, you did as you were asked, I don't see the problem :D

Well, I didn't either, but you know how difficult it can be to please women...;)

How does the old story go?

She sent me to to supermarket to buy a pint of milk.
Oh she said, and if they have eggs buy a dozen.

Yep they had eggs,
So I did as instructed and bought a dozen bottles of milk.
Problem? I don't see a problem.

Just read the OP's post...reply.. much earlier in the thread, so I'll bow out.. :exit:

Funninly enough, I could read that whole thing in a fraction of the time it would have taken if word perfect. What does that say about me???

I have an opinion but somethings are best left un-typed :p
:D
