Yes
Asked Pipex 7 days ago for my mac code to migrate to another isp. Still not got it yet and their dragging their heels. Since Tiscali took them over the service has hit rock bottom, now the sods won't answer the phone, £1.50 already spent this morning on hold listening to some inane music and still not managed to speak to anyone. Gawd I wish there was a office nearby I could visit.

Anyone else had problems with this crowd, I've found their so called 8 mbit slows to around 1.5 mbit around 8 pm till after midnight...bandwidth capping perhaps?

Yes that's the regulations which I'll be quoting to them after I have the op's name. I've read elsewhere that they are known to drag their heels, I'll give them one last chance then it's on to Ofcom.

When you decide to ask for the mac code write down the time date and who you spoke to.

Will certainly follow that advice re noting it down !

Good luck Frank !

Just spoke to someone from Pipex, they tell me they have no record of me phoning last week. I told him to check my account details and I'm sure there will or should be a note of my call. Now I get the official line that it can take up to 5 working days to get the mac code sent out. Friday morning sees a email being sent to Ofcom if no code lands in my mailbox.

They'll never be as bad as Talk Talk were when I was with them, after a struggle to get a mac code they continued billing me, ignored letters and broke promises on the phone, threatened to send the bailiffs in, and only stopped when ofcom got involved and awarded me compensation. I was one of many in a similar situation with them. Some even claimed and won compensation through the courts.

(have a feeling I have mentioned this before on another thread)

I'm looking around to switch as well. I was a Pipex customer for years and happy but since they were sold it's been getting worse by the week. Now I'm noticing all sorts of routing problem - sites in the UK are hopping over to the US, back to Belgium and then timing out. Tech support aren't technical and don't provide any support. It's a joke. Problem is who do I to switch to?

I'm switching to Sky cos we'll be getting a tv and phone package as well so I'd like to keep it all together in one bill. My son has Sky broadband etc and is quite happy with them.

bethere isn't available in my area and they don't have a date for when it will be :(

I use NDO www.ndo.com

Not the cheapest but been with them for years now.

Uk call centre as well.

Still no mac code yet.

Sent email off to pipex, spoke to them on phone and also sent a letter recorded delivery...they have until Friday then Ocom and whoever else will follow.

24 mbit , wonder if you get these speeds

It depends how close you are to the exchange, and more importantly, your underground line length (which isnt the same distance as the crow flies ;)) and quality, back to the exchange.

A customer of mine is having a mare of a problem in trying to switch although it is largely his own fault. He tried and tried to obtain a mac code and (his provider) wouldn't supply. So he cancelled the account :( This is the worst thing he could have done. Now we can't connect him as there's the marker left on the line. His old provider now won't talk to him - cos he doesn't have an account!! I pointed him at ofcom - and told him to be patient.

When I left Pipex (admittedly years ago) I got my mac within minutes by email but reading the pipex forum http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=pipex it seems 5 days is what everyone is quoted now. Make sure that the one you get is valid too, there's a thread there saying something about being changed to tiscali ipstream instead of pipex but being issued a pipex mac.

I had amazing trouble with Pipex, even though it was them asking me to leave (apparently I used too much bandwith on their unlimited package over several years). Tech support couldn't provide any details of my alleged FUP infringements, Got billed after it was cancelled, got passed from pillar to post to get my code. Eventually got it sorted, but they were a shower......

Good to get away from them as I didn't realise till I got a different provider that how rubbish the Pipex service was....

Now using Entanet, similar price to Pipex, 30GB Peak Time Cap, 300GB per month offpeak limit. Good speeds and great support (not that I've really needed to talk to any of them). Heard lots of Good things about Andrews and Arnold as well, though they're quite expensive.
