Evening all,

I managed to drop my 580 EX II this evening. The flash appears to still work ok.

The only visible damage is the AF LED cover that smashed.

I can find a replacement panel for around £20. Having found a service manual on-line, it mentions all sorts of grease & stuff. Is that all necessary?

Has anyone experience of replacing the lens ?

Any idea on what Canon might charge ?

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Update: Have emailed the Colchester Camera Repair people for a quote.

Fingers crossed.

Replacing the AF lens should be easy if you have decent small screwdrivers; ensuring that the 580ex ii is still perfectly weather sealed is much tougher :-) If you're not worried about the weather sealing I would do it yourself and not worry about fresh grease etc. (Have done this repair on mk 1 580ex but not on the mk ii by the way.)

Thanks for the reply.

The nice man from Colchester informs me that they just clip on, no need to take the gun apart.

So, I've ordered the part, and should be up and running again shortly.
