Dad's Army

Well, it's quite the cast, but I just can't see it working myself.
Why can't they just leave things alone :(

A 2015 remake of Dad's Army will really recapture the nuance of the original, won't it? And the underlying poignancy!

Let alone the humour!

If I were a few years older, I'd strap a kitchen knife to a broom handle and go and do my bit to sort out them foreign film makers myself!

CZJ. In Dad's Army. Don't think her plastic perma smile and pemanently perfect make up will really fit in with a wartime scenario.

I can see how Bill Nighy will fit in but I'm not convinced about the rest TBH.

Doubt I'll watch it though.

There are some excellent actors in the list and I'd find it difficult to think of any better ones to take on the roles of Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson, but I think it should not be done. Dads Army was a gem and IMO should be remember as it was.

who would you have as del and rodney in only fools and horses... equally as daft an idea IMHO

Should be left alone. The modern version of Bilko was awful, and only Peter Sellers should have been Inspector Clouseau.

The remake of Godzilla was crap as well. Where was Godzuki??????

The director might find himself shouting "Don't panic!" if the film does bomb (as so to speak).

FFS. Guaranteed pish. WTF are they introducing a bit of glamour (??) with Zeta Jones for. I for one won't be spending my hard earned on this.

I can't see it working... can anyone replace Lowe and leMesurier... let alone Dunn and the others??? It was a classic and I can't see it having the charm of the original.

It won't have any charm! Nor even any understanding of what created the humour of the original. Nor even any humour! It'll just be a crude cartoon with probably a bit of glued-on glamour, 'cos sex sells, maybe a bit of CGI for excitement and undoubtedly a reasonable slice of Breakfast TV budget for the hype!

Like every other unnecessary remake, it'll have Dumb and Dumber acting out the roles of Bialystock and Bloom or Ernest Bilko or Alfie Elkins and Dumb and Dumber will get it wrong again! And like every other unnecessary remake, it'll stink!!

The thing that puzzles me about remakes is what they choose to remake. In some way I could understand the remaking of a poor film or series - new team thinks they can improve on something that did not hit the mark first time around, but they always go for a classic, as in this case. Do they think some of the class of the original is going to transfer to the remake? Just think of Get Carter.
