daddy day cares Photo52 for 2010 part 2 finished

Cracking shot and lovely colours. The black works perfectly with the pink and blue

Really nice edit, works perfectly for the theme, would have cropped it slightly less tight but a good image none the less.

Thanks folks.

Dan - I cropped it that tight to get rid of the base as per other peoples suggestions. I must admit that I quite like it now but it wasn't my first choice of crop.

Andy

Love both versions of electric - the colours against the black do look superb!

Phil

Bit of a catch-up here...

Relaxation: two lovely candids. If I really had to choose I prefer the first one, of your daughter, who has such a lovely smile on her face and is so obviously enjoying herself. Your son is having to concentrate more so that it looks more of an effort, and the red putting thingy is a little distracting.

Grace - another swan! Yours is much more active than mine, and I really like the bow wave. Well exposed, too - it needs some thought, doesn't it.

Endings: you've done well with this in difficult circumstances.

Electric: - both versions are fantastic! You've caught the wonderful colours and flickers perfectly.

Thanks folks.

I am falling a bit behind again but will catch up shortly.

I have already taken "mobile" but need to get "transform" sorted before I post it.

Looks like another theme will be pulled before I get these two posted though :(

Andy

Transform: I get it, but there is a lot of different colours and aspects to take it - perhaps a closer shot of one of the origami models, showing of its 3d-ness and the papers blurred in the background or underneath?! Just an idea ;)

Mobile: Love it, made me smile - clever thinking

Catch up time Andy,

Electric is a great shot, i always wanted a plasma ball in my youth, they are great fun. The second version is a winner.
Transform. Another great idea and i like the colours involved. I would like to see one object in its different phases to really capture transform.
Mobile, sorry doesn't do much for me as a shot, don't know if its the backdrop or the plastic hangers? i like the idea behind the shot though.

Well done on catching up again Andy. Once you fall behind it's incredibly hard to get back up to date.

 For the second electric shot. Definitely prefer this one.

Transform : Great idea, but as Dade and Chris said there's a lot to take in. I think I would have preferred it limited to 2 or 3 different colours and just the one finished item.

Mobile : Very clever - this really made me smile :)
I like the way that the pink and white games are prominent in the shot - combined with the blue hanger thing it gives it a child-like feel, which for me contributes to the baby mobile concept.
I also like the square in the b/g. Not sure what they are - is it a pattern in the wallpaper? Whatever it is, it works for me

Transform - I rather like this one with its different shapes and bright colours. I'd like to see cropped closer to lose the background altogether.

Mobile - clever idea! I'm not so keen on the colours but that is a personal dislike of that particular pink and blue....

Thanks folks.

The different colours in transform was deliberate. I did think of a triptych showing a flat piece of paper then part done and completed models. I decided for just one image and went as bright and colourful as I could. The background is a piece of black suede that I like to use as it soaks up any stray light perfectly. I could crop a bit closer but I didn't want to disect any edge of the paper as I did with the pencil for "art". No chance of a reshoot now as the paper has been used by the kids straight after I posted the shot.

Mobile was shot at the angle it was to hide the pole it was hanging from. Unfortunately even though I have four kids, 2 of them have black PSPs so I didn't have enough colours. I tried to find a babies mobile in charity shops to hang them from but failed miserably. I found the hanger used for socks and underwear in a cheap hardware type shop. The colour worked for me as being right for a mobile (as did the pink PSP) The squares in the background are the wallpaper in my dining room. I would usually put up a background for my still life shots. In this case I thought that this is the view a baby would have.

That is my thought process for these two shots. Opinion seems to be divided on whether I've pulled it off or not. This week I am going to resist the temptation to reshoot them even though I do value peoples input.

Andy

Transform: Andy I like this as it is - lots of colour, some interesting shapes and you can imagine a couple of children industriously transforming all that paper into different shapes. The placing of the three models echoes the overall arrangement, too - nice touch. :)

Mobile: I love the idea - a mobile of mobile gaming thingies taken from a baby's-eye view. I'm glad you resisted putting the 2 black ones opposite each other and I can apreciate the problems of framing something suspended from a pole. My only suggestion would be to clone out the wallpaper pattern because it's a little distracting, (imho!) Well done on a clever idea.

Jean

Hi Andy, I really love the colours in transform. Very eye-catching, although I would have perhaps preferred a tighter crop. Excellent take on the theme.

Mobile - very clever idea. It must have been quite difficult to get all the games in the shot. I also like the viewpoint.

Jenny

Transform - great colours although your origami figures are a littel lost.

Mobile - mobile of mobile game! very clever - made me smile

Transform - great idea, I feel it could have had more impact with less paper as others have mentioned.

I think mobile works well and is a clever idea. A portrait rather than landscape crop would have echoed the orientation of the PSPs and improved the overall composition IMO.

Phil

Transform, is a great idea, and works to a point... The plane seems to almost get lost in the pile of paper though, there's not enough seperation.

Mobile, very clever, and works well. I think I agree about portrait would have worked better.

Thanks again to everybody that has taken the time to comment.

I was determined to not touch these images once I'd posted them.

I'm not going to reshoot but I will be reprocessing, especially transform.

My spyder 3 pro arrived today and I have calibrated my monitor. No wonder people are seeing things that I didn't  My screen was miles off. I now need to redo loads of images (most of my 52 I think) The background on "transform" was a lovely deep black when I posted it. Now it looks light grey on my calibrated screen :bang:

I may try a different (tighter) crop on transform.

Mobile was impossible to shoot in portrait because of the set up. I did try it at the time.

Can you replace shots on flickr without changing the links?

Andy

Can you replace shots on flickr without changing the links?

I believe you can by going to Actions > Replace this photo

Never tried it myself (flickr virgin) but seem to recall it being mentioned elsewhere on TP as working like this.

Another catch up.

Electric - Great colours against the black background Andy.

Transform - Again very striking colours against the background, maybe a little busy with all the different colours, but I do like it.

Mobile - Interesting take. I don't envy you having 4 children - I only have two and that's enough!

Andy, you can indeed replace them, I'm not sure how you do from the web interface, I've only ever done it from the Aperture flickr uploader.

Transform - great idea and the strong bold colours work really well and set it off perfectly with black.

Mobile - very clever, put together really well and great thinking behind the shot

Thanks again folks.

I am falling further and further behind now but here is "surf-aces"

Andy

You're not that far behind, Andy - it's hard to keep up some weeks. :)

Surf-aces: Very clever!!:clap::clap: tbh, I think the cleverness of the interpretation over-rides the 'surf down' situation on the water. :D It would have been good to have the wind surfers larger in the frame, but I guess you couldn't get any closer. It also looks as though you were shooting almost directly into bright sunlight (where on earth did you find bright sun??? ) So, all in all, a really difficult situation - but it fits the theme very neatly.

Jean

Thanks Jean.

It was very sunny

The photo was taken at Stanley Sailing Centres regatta on Saturday. It was on the reservoir at Stanley Head Outdoor Education centre. The biggest issue was just getting windsurfers in the shot and not dinghys. There must have been about a dozen small boats, 2 power boats and a kayak as well as the windsurfers

I had ideas for light and project but failed miserably on both of them so need to rethink them now :bang: Hopefully get some done over the weekend when I'm not on nights.

I also need to comment on other peoples threads as well.

Andy

A very clever take on the theme Andy. looks like a tricky exposure situation, but you've done quite a nice job. I agree with Jean, that getting in closer on one of the surfers would be a good thing,

Thanks John.

I'm pretty sure I did get a shot of an individual surfer much closer to me. I chose this one as the theme was surfaces in the plural.

I need to do some serious catching up next week. I'm not off work until Sunday now but I have actually shot "project" so will do "light" then and I can post them both up.

Do other people go through phases where they don't seem to get any time to take photos or lose inspiration?

Andy

Andy, I regularly go through long periods with no time or inspiration. Sometimes the only reason I get the camera out from one week to the next is to get a shot for the 52... even if it's only a grab shot of something vaguely near the theme.

Thanks John.

I have taken "project" and "dirty" but want to post them up in order. I pretty much know what I'm shooting for "light" and "film" so I'm not as far behind as it seems (at least that's what I keep telling myself  )

"rage" has me stumped at the moment though

Andy

I know exactly what you mean... who put that theme in the pot... maybe we should all "Rage" at them...

Might be time to throw out the crowbar and just shoot anything ;)

Good to see you still hanging in there Andy - and looking forward to your catch up once you've sorted light and film.

Anyone who says that posting an image a week is easy should give this a go

p.s. I totally missed surf-aces, but a really clever twist for that week

Sur-faces: full marks for ingenuity! I like the panoramic composition and you have managed the difficult lighting very well. The water looks as if it is flowing downhill a bit but that may be just an optical illusion caused by the line of the shore.

I sometimes struggle for inspiration and several times have not had the time to get a shot even when I've known exactly what I want to do. It sounds as if you are near to catching up. Just remember - it's all just for fun so not worth worrying about!

Hey Andy your trying to keep up trust me it is hard ;)

Like the shot, get the concept, shame about the water glare and perhaps a moment longer when the sails where toward camera and you would have a great contrast against the green background.

Keep at it, thats the key, good luck

Andy - Surf-aces - **groan** :D

I think you've done well to keep the other boats out of the shot. The panoramic works well.
