daddy day cares Photo52 for 2010 part 1 weeks 1 to 26

I do have a small confession though. The single malt is actually cold tea ;) It was also my second attempt. The first one was made up with hot water from the tap and you could see the crud making it cloudy  For this one I used RO water that I filter for my marine tank and boiled it. No impurities to spoil my photo in that

Well I would never have guessed that it was tea. It's worked brilliantly and innovative use of your RO.

Good shot and a lovely warm shot. If you could get a little more detail in the stopped it'll be even better

Single malt......... Damn. Why did I not think of that one? Have quite a collection going on here, including one from India! :suspect:

Good take on the theme, but I am not 100% sure of the angle of the shot. Looks a bit "thin" as well (the malt!).... ah it's tea!

Nice shot for single - a man after my own heart! On the whole I like the composition, but it does make the whisky glass look large relative to the decanter.

Phil

The colour of the wood works very well with the tea ..... ooops, sorry, I mean single malt! (I'd never have guessed without sampling it!), and the cut glass picks up the light in a very subtle way. I think it would have been easy to overdo this, and you've judged it just right. Ok, the stopper could have a bit more punch - but it's only a minor niggle. :)

Jean

An excellent image for the them. I like it, I'd never have known it was tea if you hadn't said

A lovely warm image - you could probably lift the stopper slightly but it is a great shot even so.

Produce: Nice composition and well exposed. Bright sky and dark forecgrounds are never easy, but you did a good job with that.

Reshoot is a lovely shot. You did well with the steel to not get any nasty reflections. Again - well composed and well edited after comments.

Shoot is a well timed, well composed shot. The blown sky spoils it a little, but not enough to detract too much from the image.

Single. Crikey. How many whiskey shots this week from photographers...? Another good strong composition and you've handled the lighting well.

Good stuff and apologies for the late catchup!

Ian.

Thank-you very much folks.

A lot of really kind comments there.

This 52 lark seems to be improving my photography as it goes on  I am least thinking more about compostion, lighting and camera settings instead of putting on manual and machine gunning snapshots.

I don't think this weeks is going to be very original though

Andy

Nice effort for single. Really interesting background which sets everything off nicely. My only niggle is the tea single malt and the glass look a little flat and pale in comparison to the strong background.

Thank-you Darren.

As I have said, I love this shot but do have a few niggles that could warrant a reshoot. Paleness of the "whisky" is one of them. For a reshoot I would probably make the malt a touch darker, throw the background out of focus and light the stopper a bit more. Also wipe the glass of fingerprints

Andy

Look into my eyes,
Not around the eyes,
Not above the eyes,
but into the eyes.....

Andy

OMG just my sort of picture absolutely beautiful. lighting great and look at those eyes

I have only just added Single so had better get on with it :lol:

 Well done on this weeks theme Andy I am jealous with envy, wehre was it taken by the way?

Thanks folks.

It was shot today at a nearby wildlife rescue centre.

There were only a couple of birds out of the aviaries so I got talking to one of the keepers. She offered to get this owl out for me when I told her what shot I was after.

She (the owl, not the keeper) refuses to fly if there is a plane or glider in the sky :cuckoo: So she has to stare into the sky for ages to make sure it's clear before she will fly

Andy

Grrrrreat shot, great quote! She looks a bit sad. :(

Thanks Dean.

She does look a bit sad in this shot doesn't she?

Trust me she didn't look that upset earlier when she was refusing to co-operate. Have you ever tried to take a picture of someone face on that can turn their head right around to face the opposite way  She seemed to find it quiet funny somehow. As did my wife and the keeper

Andy

Great shot, another self portrait ;)

Really love the light and the subject is beautiful. Can you go back there and take another shot of the owl straight on, looking into the camera, with those eyes I can see the shot being absolutely stunning!

Thanks Gary (I think  )

It can't be me anyway. Owls are suposed to be wise

She point blank refused to stay staring straight into the lens and i think Jennys arm was getting tired holding a flipping great owl out for me to take pictures of.

Andy

im under!

great shot, although its a bit of a sad stare i have to say. must be one of Sheffield Wednesdays Owls, wer'e all looking a bit sad this season:'(

Thanks Chris.

I never even noticed the sad expression until people commented on it. She seems happy enough in real life. Don't forget though that this was a rescue centre not a zoo. All of the animals there were in for a reason. Could have been injured or ill treated.

Andy

Wow! Great pic & perfect for the theme!

Phil

Damn, another thread I've overlooked.

Love the owl stare Andy. Wish I'd thought of it - think I may even have some owl shots somewhere!

Nice take on the theme, great stare.

Thanks guys.

I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. I'm glad I spoke to the staff about what I wanted to achieve. they were really helpfull.

I've just noticed that if you click on it and go to the larger version you can just make out my reflection in her eyes

Andy

Very very good IMO. I love the eye contact, composition, lighting, but most of all it's the subject choice that wins out.

Lovely stuff.

Ian.

Loving the stare shot. Nice close framing makes the eyes the obvious subject.

Great work :)

Absolutely fantastic! A lovely texture in the feathers and wonderful expression.:clap::clap:

Great image Andy
I like the square crop, the owl's head fills the frame showing great detail in the feathers. Lovely looking creature but wouldn't wish to get on the wrong side of it. Something very different for this weeks theme 10/10 for originality and creativity. Well done. Iain

A beautiful stare picture. I love the way you have cropped it to really concentrate on those eyes.
Sue

Cheers folks.

When this theme was pulled out I was convinced that I'd be playing a joker. It worked out well in the end though. This is probably my favourite of my 52 so far.

Andy

the texture of the feathers is fantastic could almost feel how soft she is

I don't think this weeks is going to be very original though  Well, you were wrong on that count, Andy! Look at all the great comments you've had. :)

Andy

Wow that's a gorgeous shot - perfect detail, well lit, good crop. I think it's one of your best to date, Andy.:clap::clap:

I did laugh, though, trying to imagine getting an owl to face the camera. :)

Jean

Thanks Jean.

I think this is my best week so far :D.

SWMBO thought it was amusing as well

Now I've just got one more night to work after this one and i can get thinking about "peace"

Andy

   Definitely your best shot so far!

Great focus, beautiful detail and nicely framed.
I think I can just make out your reflection in the eyes.

I'm really glad that you're getting something out of the 52 and pushing yourself every week. That's the whole purpose of it after all.

p.s. What type of owl is it? She's absolutely beautiful.
