D90 Owners Thread - Anything D90 related

Grabbing one of the last D90's from work on wednesday with the 18-105 and also getting the battery grip. 35mm and 50mm lens to get me started! :D

That is a good and valid point to raise about the card capacity risk.

My perspective on it is that it was cheaper for me to buy one 16GB card than 4x4GB cards. Having 4 cards instead of one raises other issues - mixing them up, leaving them behind, losing them, etc. Of course, you can lose/damage/corrupt the 1 card and be in more trouble if it was full at the time. Its all about how comfortable you are with yourself and your equipment and the trust in the technology.

If you really want to highlight the risks associated with data storage, how many of you backup all your data to multiple devices?

If you really want to be secure in your data it needs to be transferred off your card to HD then burnt/copied to a separate disc/disk, copied to DAT, etc then regularly archived "offsite" too, in case of fire/damage/corruption/theft.

How many of you do all of the above I wonder? :whistling:

I actually transfer all files from my 16Gb, or whatever card I've used that day to my primary NEF folder. I then have two separate disk backups of said folder which are backed-up weekly for incremental changes. Also have the same back-up system for my main photo folder on my PC too. Only thing missing is off-site storage and copied to disc (which I haven't done for about a year or so).

I want a D90. :(

I'd ask one of you to sell me yours but there are 23 pages of odes to the camera so I doubt any of you are in a rush to sell them!

DropDead, how much are you selling the boxed D90s for?

Whoopee, just ordered a D90 body from Digital Depot :D

Another upgrader from a D40.

£577 body only at Digital Depot  if that's any help ?

Have a deal on the grip too.

Ordered mine Thursday (was £579 then) and arrived yesterday.

Great service

I picked up my D90 this morning after not using it for a few weeks. It wouldn't focus and images wouldn't appear on the LCD display. Then I got ERR and CHA error messages.
The problem couldn't be cured with switching off and on or by removing the battery. Thankfully, the problem went after removing and re-fitting the lens. I presume this is down to dirty contacts or something. Anyone else having this problem?

joined the d90 club last week, went from my trusty d50.... and WOW!

Have also invested in a new set of 4x4gb sandisk sd cards, my 2gb cards just didnt hold as much as i wanted. a few seconds of clicking and the cards are full!

Bought it with the 18-105 kit lens, a 35mm f1.8 and a rather shiny sb900!

Its a great camera and am looking forward to getting some lovely shots.

I've just paid for a D90 from the classifieds to replace my D3000. Can anyone recommend a timer remote for star trails and time lapse?

Hi, my 15 year old son has a D60 and wants to upgrade to a D90.
I have heard rumours that there will be a new version coming out this year, is this true? should he wait or should I get a D90 now?

The replacement is likely to cost around £800 in my opinion. So grab a D90 now at £580 and enjoy a superb camera.

I think it will start a bit higher than £800 but eventually come down to this price.

Not long to find out ;)

Is that £580 new? body only where can i get it from?

OK, I will have to see how much I can get for my D60, find out how may clicks it has done, and then get back to you.

£580 includes P&P? - does it use the same battery as the D60, as I need to know what to put in with the sale of my D60. I also have a 55-200 non VR. but will keep the D60 kit lens if that works OK with the D90. But I do have a 70-300VR which should go nicely with the D90. Also got all the boxes, caps, manuals etc. which I know helps with the sale.

Digital Depot do them at £569 plus £9 next-day shipping, total £578.

Hi guys - I ordered a 16GB SDHC card that has just arrived but I've just read somewhere that the D90 can only take 8GB SDHC cards - is that correct?

Luckily, I stopped to check before I opened the packaging, but stupidly forgot to check before ordering it! :bonk:

I have a 32GB SDHC card in mine...

I've got the wireless one already thanx. The camera arrived today and I adore it already :D

One question though, is it normal to have the remaining images to be displayed on the top LCD even when the camera is off?

Did you get it from me? and yes its normal.

No I got it from the classifieds in the end. Mrs would give me the budget for a new one.

Does that waste the battery?

No it doesn't waste the battery.

My friends always ask this, its highly amusing... they turn it off and then ask me where the other "off" switch is :)

I love the fact that it shows the number of remaining shots, very handy. Havent all nikons with LCD's on the top done this... my trusty d50 does

Thats good then :D

Anyone thinking about going for the D90 I would say DO IT!! After one evening I'm in love with it!

Happy Days, I'm now a proud owner of a D90

Another happy customer of Digital Depot

Delivered to NI in one day, although delivery company were a bit cheeky, leaving it at the back of the house

Just have to learn how to use if :D

And here's that old chestnut again. Which extra lens?

I have a D90 with a 50mm F1.8 and the 18mm-55mm standard that came with the body. I want one more lens, only one, I'm married, and she already thinks I've wasted enough money on the D90, two more and it'll be divorce time, so one. But which?

As it'll be just the one it needs to be the right one, and it'll need to get me through a few years of use. I'm leaning towards a 28-200, but would something up to 300 really be much more useful for general stuff or would that be heading toward more specialty areas of photography? Which brand? Am I being too brand conscious with wanting to stay with Nikon, or are Tamron / Sigma etc lenses good enough for a wannabe serious amateur?

Most of my photography is bike related (as in motor and in pics of travels), with some motorsports thrown in, family portrait stuff and general day to day photography.

What other criteria do I need to consider in the decision?

I would highly recommend the Tamron 55-200, this one should keep the OH happy.

I find I hardly ever use my 70-300. The 55-200 gets used a lot.

Mick.

Yes I can do free P&P. We have just received a lot of stock so just let me know.

The Nikon 18-200 VR has got to be the sweet spot. Just the price stops me buying it!
