sounds like a good bargain, congrats on the purchase, the D90 is a superb camera

In regards to filters, it depemds on what kind of photography you are interested in, filters arn't always needed.

but to keep things simple, I would recommend ND graduated filters, colkin filter kit with adapter rings for your lenses, (I do believe its a 52mm for the 18-55 and 62mm for the 70-300) and also a circular polarizer filter.
:)

You don't 'need' filters. They have certain uses, some people use UV filters to protect the front of their lenses from being damaged. Polarising filters remove glare and reflections, and this can't be achieved in post, but then weather or not you'll use one depends a lot on what you shoot.

In the digital age most filter effects can be easily achieved in post production, so don't worry about coloured/warming filters.

Always best to have uv filters fitted to all lenses to protect lenses

OR.....................just use a lens hood  why put cheap glass filters on expensive lenses to ruin clarity etc , beats me?

OK, D90 arrived yesturday. I put battery in but their was not enough power to turn on, so i charged the battery for a while. When i went back to the battery the charger light had stoped flashing so i put it in the camera and their was still no power. so i charged it for a bit longer but when i went back to it the battery wasnt even warm (if it should be) and still no power. Is this battery totaly knackered or am i doing something wrong.
Thanks Dave

Sadly, it does sound like it. It could be something like a bad internal connection in the battery, though. To find out, you might try enlisting the help of a tame retailer, to see if they'd be willing to try your battery in a D90 there, or a known good battery in yours, to be sure there isn't a problem with your D90.

I'm a bit surprised - I've charged mine hundreds of times in the past couple years, and the indicator's still barely crept beyond the "new" mark, with around 1000-1600 shots per full charge.

Just order a replacement battery on 7dayshop. It is cheap to check and a spare battery is always useful.

Enjoy. I love my D90.

Thanks
Rick

Hi there, sorry to hear of problems with your nice new D90 :'(

One thing that comes to mind ... is it the correct battery? The D90 needs an en-el3e which has 3 contacts - the en-el3 (2 contacts) battery won't work. I've seen people try to use the wrong one before :)

Thanks for the replies, and yes i went to my local PC World and they tried a battery in my camerea from one of theirs and all is good:) so its just the battery thats gone. New battery on its way so should get it today.:)

Unless it's the charger :p

I've not heard of anyone have a completely dead Nikon battery before - awaits torrent of "it's happened to me" comments :D
