The latest issue (March) of Digital Photo on page 27 appears to show a D90 reviewing a photo with a histogram overlaying the picture. I use the histogram but I've only ever found the histogram which sits alongside a shrunken image.
I've looked through the manual but see no mention of the view shown in Digital Photo. Have I missed something or have Digital Photo used some artistic licence to emphasise the histogram?

I'm not too sure how on a D90, but to get the histogram overlay on image playback info you need to turn it on in the display settings, on my D200 and D3 it's in the playback menu along with display AF points and various other info..

It's definitely there though (somewhere ) mate

If you have the manual that came with the camera go to page 130 i think you will find what your looking for

Don't you just press "up" on the d-pad when you are viewing the image so you cycle through the displays.

Yes that gives the RGB histogram, or the mini histogram alongside the reduced size photo, but no overlaid histogram like in the example.
It's a mystery!

Try pressing the d-pad button up or left or right a few times when in the playback displays the rgb etc.

I've seen exactly that kind of histogram a million times during image playback on both my cameras. I'd go check it out but I don't have them with me.

Been there, done that!

i cant get the overlay histogram on my d90 either, i have selected everythink on the menu.

Glad it's not just me then!

I think DP have photoshopped the display from another camera so that the histogram can be seen more easily. Or I've incorrectly identified the camera!

Y'know what Charlie, now I have my D3 to look at, there doesn't seem to be a way of a histogram overlay and come to think of it, the many times I've seen this could have been on my D200 instead:thinking:

Possibly a different LCD image from another model - D200/D300 maybe

I emailed DP and they replied:

It’s not a tutorial on using a D90 – it’s a generic Histogram display. We featured this to cover users of all makes and models.

So I'm not daft after all (well not on this anyway!)
