Hi All,

First post so be gentle with me. Just bought a Nikon D90 and haven't bought an additional battery yet, I wondered whether you guys let your batteries totally run down before recharging.

Scenario: I am going to a wedding on Saturday and only have about a quarter battery charge remaining. Would you charge it now & risk the 'memory effect' or totally discharge it by leaving the camera switched on?

Enjoying the site by the way - some great advice!

Regards

You won't get a memory effect with the battery in your D90, so don't worry about that, but it doesn't do any harm to let it run down and do a full recharge now and again. Leaving the camera on won't really run the battery down by the weekend (unless you have MY camera :bonk:) so you'd be better going out and taking lots of practice shots to use it up ;)

Welcome to TP, btw :)

I read somewhere that Li-Ion batteries love to be charged and need a full discharge-recharge only once each 30 cycles.

So keep 'em well charged

I regularly run my batteries down to about 10% but that's only because I'm lazy and I have three or four batteries with me all the time. Only once have I gone out, only to find ALL of them were at 10% or less! great lol!

Leaving the camera on stand-by will hardly use any battery life, so as said, take some photos. Or you can use the discharge function through the settings. That'd save on shutter actuations lol.
