saying the d850 has now been discontinued !!
wonder if there is a replacement on the horizon

Not sure what they will replace it with - I am sure that there are far more DSLR shooters out there than EVR shooters so there is certainly a good market - maybe they will put in body VR into a new model but that would cost - I cannot see that it needs a bigger sensor - 3D tracking has come under quite a lot of criticism versus Canon, so maybe that would be improved ......... we shall just have to wait

Assuming they replace it with anything. That 'discontinued' notice seems to be a false alarm. But Nikon are throwing everything at mirrorless right now. Maybe the high end dSLRs will end up as legacy products like the F6 was, still officially available but never updated or discounted and gradually allowed to fade from view.

Probably a good time to move on my D810. Might be some end of line deals for D850’s or early adopters trading in for its replacement might mean some nice used stuff.

There was speculation re a 60mp or so replacement using the A7RIV sensor - mooted for late 2020, early 2021. It never materialised or was really announced so went for the 645z and 5ds solution. Shame really.
