D80 v D90

D80 about £400, D90 about £800..... is it worth double ? Should I buy a D80 and save up for a bigger lens ?
 
Ive had my D80 for a long time now and still love it to bits, its an awesome camera, ive not used a D90 but im guessing its just as great to use as the D80 plus the option of recording great quality video.

I personally am not fussed about being able to take video but if its something you would find usefull then go for it, plus its also "newer" so it has extra bling factor.

I personally would go D80 and better lens, all camera bodies do roughly the same thing, whereas good lenses really are more important.

Depends on whether you shoot a lot at high isos. The D80, like the D200 it's based on isn't great at much above 800, the D90 on the other hand is based on the D300, so will handle high iso work much better.

The D90 has other bells and whistles that the D80 doesn't, it depends if you really value these at £400. The D80 is being cleared by retailers now, so I'd imagine that a bit of digging would uncover one for less, Jessops had refurbished ones for under £250 last week....
 
I guess if I had the extra bells and whistles I would use them .....
My favorite branch of photography is rock concerts, so the higher iso's in low light would be useful.........
My local Jessops didn't have a D80 but Currys did.

Nothing stopping you from using both A-FS and non AF-S lenses on a D80!
 
I was deciding between d80/d90 decided the 90 because it has everything you need plus great ISO and video , if I got the d80 I would have been like o I wish the ISO was better etc... Cantsee me needing to upgrade the d90 either unlike the d40.
If you got the money get the d90 IMO

Just means bigger maximum aperture, to let more light in.

I've just upgraded from a D60 to a D90, so I can't compare directly to the D80. I didn't get it for the video but rather over the D60: bracketing, better ISO, internal AF motor. I would guess the only one of these the D80 doesn't have is the better ISO performance.

Only had it about a week but I'm loving it so far :thumbs:
 
Dave, as Alex said, lens with bigger max aperture i.e. smaller f/number, 50mm f1.4 is 'faster' than 60mm f2.8. All it means is that you'll be able to shoot with less light. Although using smaller f/number will have thinner plane of focus.
 
I would say D80 and i have the D90, but when you mentioned rock Gigs i would be going towards a D90.

I had the D80(and my friend still does) and it was a good bit of kit but i have to admit the D90 in low light kills the D80.

now i am confused you ask which is better a D80 or a D90 then totally ignore all responses and get a D60. Now i not gonna try to upset you but if you had asked D60 or D80 i think you might have got a clearer answer.

BTW i would have got a D80 over a D60.
 
I tried several shops and none had a D80. (discontinued)
I have not had a chance to do any concert photo's yet but I'm very happy with outdoor and indoor shots I have taken so far.
 
Went from D70 to D90 no regrets whatsever......do it
 
Oh well. The D60 can't be a bad camera really. I've just got back into photography and I'm pleased with my D40 for now. I've always preferred smaller bodies. Had a Pentax ME Super for years.
